THE Seven network will broadcast the soon-to-launch Australian equivalent of America's Lingerie Football League.
The local version of the female gridiron (or American football) competition, in which women compete in lingerie, padding and helmets, is called the Legends Football League Australia.
The eight regular season matches will be telecast exclusively on Seven's male-skewing multichannel, 7mate, from December 14.
The league's first Australian season will include four state clubs: the Western Australia Angels, Victoria Maidens, New South Wales Surge and the Queensland Brigade and play at major stadiums including Skilled Park (Gold Coast), AAMI Park (Melbourne), CentreBet Stadium (Penrith) and nib Stadium (Perth).
"The LFL has developed a great fan base here in Australia and we feel 7mate is the perfect fit from an audience perspective for this emerging and entertaining sport," said Saul Shtein, Head of Sport, Seven Network. The North American Lingerie Football League has previously screened on Foxtel's action sports channel, Fuel.
"We have proven that there is a great audience for LFL in Australia. We were simply limited as to reaching a wider national audience; this partnership with 7mate opens the door to developing the next big Aussie sport," said Mitchell S. Mortaza, the founder and chairman of LFL Global.
Interestingly, Seven said it will broadcast LFL Australia's 'State of Origin' match between the New South Wales Surge and Queensland Brigade in high definition. Seven does not yet broadcast all its exclusive AFL matches in high definition.
