Live game thread vs the Cowboys

The captain's challenge is meant to make things fairer now it has become an avenue to exploit the rules. The NRL should get rid of it immediately.

Annesley agreed in his press conference that the escort ruling was incorrect and then the bunkers decision was also wrong.

What a load of rubbish. He is a muppet, and we should push for a redaction and our two points.

The bigger problem is similar mistakes occur multiple times, across all games every week and have over the last three years.

The whole of point of using technology, in this case the bunker, is to make sure they don't.

If it was just a dud call so be it. As you say happens all the time even at the end of games as seen in the Broncos game a few years back which can always fall down to the referees 'interpretation' of the rules. In this case the challenge by definition of the rules can't have occurred. There is no interpretation defence that is the rule and how it has applied since the captain's challenge's inception.

Just remembered my favourite part of the presser

Annesley trying to explain that teams should be able to challenge a call on yen final play “we don’t want the game decided on an error” this after he had explained that the game had been decided on an error.

I find the whole situation unbelievable. It was a farcical decision. You may as well have Tigers fan reffing Tigers games. That is the only way to even that out.

Finucane's hit on Crichton compared to Ken bracing himself for impact on Dearden. It's just terrible officiating.

Yes mate I was also like what the actual f with that statement.

Klein should be forced to run a touch line for our remaining home games at Campbelltown and Leichhardt and put the centre referee on the other touch line. After having to hear how upset the fans are they may change their attitude to making these types of calls

Would someone please explain to me which referee decision did the Cowboys captain challenge? It is an opportunity to challenge a perceived error of judgment made by a referee within a 10 second window of opportunity. The referee made NO decision on field which was open to a Cowboys challenge. This is all just making up the rules after the event. The captain can’t initiate a ruling and then challenge it!!! That is corruption in all senses of the word.
The Annesley explanations are completely illogical.

We should have a coaches challenge to the bunker in the last 10 minutes of each match.

Annesley can watch it and decide the correctness of it.

He’s paid fortune, at least his boys should get the simple things right.

He should probably stand down. Be accountable.

For the record, I heard direct from Bill many years later that he put his arm out the wrong way for that penalty - he meant to award a penalty to the Tigers. Instead of correcting himself, he went through with the incorrect call.
I don't know if I could handle that if it were true. Surely he's joking.

He applied the classic interpretation where you cannot use any component of the play for an obstruction, including an offside player. And by law it may be something you actually can penalise.

But like jaywalking I haven't seen it penalised before or since.

As posted in another thread

I just watched Annesley's conference. It makes me sad but I cannot in good conscience support a corrupt league. Annesley point blanc has made up a new rule on the spot and is standing by it. It's not in the rulebook it literally cannot be challenged. And if it is allowed to be challenged suddenly there are different rules for the final tackle of the game? Where is the consistency in that?

Its a shame knowing the tigers are building to it's most promising era in the next few years but I can't support it if this is where this saga ends.
He's not corrupt, he's just incompetent. I've watch his pressers before and he is about as good as explaining things as Morph the plasticine man.
