LOL...How quiet is this forum when we win?

Would need to improve massively to trouble storm Souths and manly but some good signs. Haven't seen the stats but the tigers seemed to be offloading more than usual? Or maybe just a tactic on a hot day - but was good to see them throw it around - they are a much better team - also good to see a return to the early spreads. Blair was excellent

Not singling anyone out in particular and I realise some havent gotten home from the game yet but it is a ghost town on here today compared with Monday night. Lets talk about the win for a moment….

For mine today was a step in the right direction and without getting carried away in any shape or form, I found myself pleasantly surprised with the turn around in the attitude and aptitude of our playing group. Obviously Penrith didnt bring their A game and we were far from contender material but there was some great signs I thought;

1\. Woods looks ready to start again and is over his injury. He was outstanding today and showed great agility for his tries to boot. Was best on field today in a highly impressive display.

2\. Robbie was straight behind him with a huge game himself. Looked dangerous in attack, defended well and was highly involved right throughout the game.

3\. The much maligned Timmy Moltz showed today why coaches have faith in him. Was good under the high ball, was good as last line of defence and attacked regularly. Best game I have seen from him in a long time.

4\. Benji played like he used to. He showed a good amount of flair, looked to attack at the right times, kicked well and made some good tackles.

5\. BMM from the bench was massive as was Pettybourne. These blokes ran hard and dented the line regularly. Eddie took a tap at one stage and launched into the defence with everything he had....great to see.

6\. Miller and Marshal started to find their groove. Both were darting around, backing each other up scored tries and looked dangerous. If we stick with Miller, we will have a good halfback.

7\. Aysh/Reddy combination looked really solid. They both held their ground in defence and showed a bit in attack.

8\. Koro looked very fast with ball in hand and tried to use his newly acquired frame to good use.

9\. Blair, although quiet, did a lot of mop up work and put on a great 'hip and shoulder' hit to save a try. Still has a fair way to go but is pointing in the right direction.

10\. Defence was still a bit washy but had a lot better structure than last week.

11\. Energy and enthusiam levels were vastly increased. The boys looked hungry today and did everything at speed. Even though that lead to a lot of errors, they were having a go which is in stark contrast to last week.

12\. Kick and chase was very effective for a change.

All in all, it was a scrappy affair but it was a round 2 game against a first round victor and I thought they were quite good. Lots of improvement obviously;

- Koro/Lawrence defensive combination was found out again and exploited. Could be a language barrier thing ....needs to be fixed asap.

- Koro has to work on his ball skills. He makes a lot of errors due to ball security which is a shame as he is a weapon when the ball is secured.

- Braith was very quiet. Needs to impose himeself more otherwise he is just a small second rower who is holding back guys who churn out superior stats.

- When we had established what looked like a winning lead, the main men - Rob, Benj and Braith didnt look to close out the game. It is like they are thinking, 'well they cant get us now, lets have fun'. This theory is disproven regularly and this mindset must change. Hammer the corners, find touch, make them submit and acknowledge they are beaten. Hammer them into the turf. Too often we let sides back in after doing all that hard work. Good sides like Storm, Souths and Manly dont miss these chances.

Anyway Parra next week and we could be down a few members as Gal looks almost certainly gone, Miller ended up off injured as did Rowdy. Parra will supply a harder opponent so hopefully the side continues to improve and rolls them. At the moment we are still not playing like a top 8 side, however they did show something today worth getting excited about after what was a disgraceful effort only 6 days previous.

Great post Stryker

I thought that was rubbish today. Penrith threw absolutely nothing at us, yet scored three tries and seemed to make ground at will. If we didn't get that obstruction penalty with 5 to go I reckon we were 50/50 to lose the game.

Talk about laying bare our deficiencies.

Yeh it wasnt perfect I agree…..but it was a damn sight better than last week.

Look at Canberra, at least weve improved in a week, they got worse.
We got 2 valuable points...this game will be long forgotten come August and hopefully weve improved more than weve regressed each week between now & then

All that is needed atm is gradual improvement, not expecting us to be world beaters but just keep making steps in the right direction

Disagree with a lot of people, Penrith aren't the worst side going around, they'll surprise a lot of people this yr i reckon. Have the most underrated coach in the game. If you don't agree just look what he did with the train wreck known as the Warriors. If you can get that team to so many final series and a GF you must be doing something right

The awful truth part 2 is that was a rubbish win and if Coote stayed on the field the Tigers would have lost !

I think that is a very negative view from a Tigers supporter.

Well i think it is a very truthful view in fact.

We lost Galloway (who was playing VERY well) for the entire 2nd half and Miller (our halfback who was also playing well) while the game was still in the balance. Don;t cut penriff too much slack for playing without Coote.

No question we didn;t look like premiership contenders in that game but the attitude was miles better and that was the important thing from that game.

Yeh, I really don't think Coote would've made as huge a difference as everything seems to think. Segeyaro was a more than capable replacement and I'd go so far to say that the winning margin would have been much greater if he wasn't on the field. It was only his speed that stopped us scoring a couple more tries.

That said, our performance was quite scratchy, but an improvement on last week for sure. However, I think the Titans thrashing of Canberra and Manly's thrashing of Newcastle this weekend puts into perspective where both the Tigers and and Panthers are at, currently.

I don't understand how everyone thinks Potter as coach will bring improvement overnight. There will be a change throughout the a season as players adapt to learn and trust the new structures.

Today was just good to get the 2 points as defensively there are still some issues.

Galloway will be a big loss but thankfully Woods is ready to start now. Buchanan is doing his job and Pettybourne had a great last 20 minutes. Hopefully we can find someone else to do a similar job.

Robbie was awesome. They don't call it the Robbie and Benji show for nothing!

And Miller finally got to show his wares. Benji let him do a bit more and the results showed. Benji chimed in more selectively than usual.

We would of lost to nearly any other side in the comp IMO, very scratchy but at least there was a massive improvement in the determination and enthusiasm from last week.
Well done to Moltzen, he caught some really difficult bombs and his positional play when Penrith were kicking into the in-goal was great, just hope that he can show some consistency from week to week (although not at the expense of Tedesco in the side).

Braith needs to get out of the 2nd Row- he offered nothing. Would be much better as a ball-playing lock, his ballhandling is his biggest asset and would be of massive value to us if we can get him the ball with a bit more space to attack and set up the outside men with that lethal bullet cut-out pass that he is capable of.

Lawrence has lost it unfortunately, didn't get much quality ball but he doesn't go looking for the action anymore like he used to. Sad to see how much he has regressed after his horrific hip injury, maybe time for NSW Cup for him to hopefully find some confidence and get his spark back.
At least we got a win today but it was far from impressive. Not sure why we still continue to have such a stuttered, un-organised attack? We don't have that many new faces in the team, surely they know each others games by now? If we dish up that "headless chooks" style of play the good aggressive defensive teams will absolutely eat us alive.

Also worrying that we seemed to clock off when we thought the game was won, it happens way too often. Watched Cronk make a couple of try saving tackles at the end of the Storm-Cows game when he had every right just to go easy- they had the game in the bag. That was bloody impressive and shows one of the main differences between us and the top sides.

Need a vastly better performance next week because the Eels are playing quite well and will fancy their chances against us. Also worried that Hayne had a quiet game this week, he will be due to have a big game.
