LOTE TO TAKE TO TENNIS COURTS FOR CHARITY

Wests Tigers winger Lote Tuqiri will pick up a tennis racquet in the aid of charity at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre on Sunday, November 27.
The dual international will join some of Australia’s greatest tennis legends and stars from television, music, sport and politics for the inaugural Apia International Sydney Lleyton Hewitt Charity Day to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Lleyton and his wife Bec, will team up to take on a host of players and celebrities including Kate Ritchie, Bernard Tomic, Patrick Rafter, Shannon Noll, John Newcombe, Brett Lee, John Alexander, Tony Roche, Tuqiri and Corey Brown in a round robin format.
Gates open at 11am with the action getting underway at 12pm.
"I'm looking forward to it. Lleyton is a good friend and follows the Wests Tigers so when he asked me to play, I jumped at the chance,'' Tuqiri said.
"It should be plenty of fun. It is not everyday you get to play tennis with Pat Rafter or Tony Roche. I hope to see plenty of Wests Tigers supporters in the crowd to cheer me on."
The Apia International Sydney Lleyton Hewitt Charity Day is a key component of the two-time Grand Slam champions’ Ambassadorial role with the event and is a great opportunity for tennis fans to experience the light hearted side of the sport.
“Hosting the Charity Day is an idea I have had for a while now and it is fantastic that the Apia International Sydney and Tennis Australia have partnered with me to make it a reality,” Hewitt said.
“We will have the biggest names in Australian tennis taking part and they will each partner with a celebrity for an afternoon of entertaining and fiercely competitive doubles action.
“Fans could potentially see our Davis Cup captain Pat Rafter teaming up with Gold Logie winner Kate Ritchie or Bernard Tomic and Lote Tuqiri towering over their opponents at the net.
“Along with all the action on the court, there will be loads of interactive games including ‘Ace the Gooch’, as well as MLC Tennis Hot Shots and a live performance from Shannon Noll.
“There will also be a raffle on the day with two major prize winners taking part in a tie break with myself and Pat on Ken Rosewall Arena.
“All the proceeds from the day will go to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, which is a very worthy cause that Bec and I have supported for a number of years."
Tickets to the Apia International Sydney Lleyton Hewitt Charity Day are just $10 for adults, $5 for children and $15 for a family of four.
