Luke Brooks #167

He needs 4 internationals to play well? Huh.
Yes. He’s not a superstar to be clear.

So does Hunt. So does DCE. I can’t name one that has overcome an ordinary team.

Knights once lost something like 12 in a row with Joey in their dark days.

Brooks is not one of ours now. He belongs to Manly and why waste energy even engaging in discussion about him.
But you must know by now that the Sea Pidgeons are one of the most hated teams here due to historical events that effected one of the foundation clubs that are part of this merger.

Even though I was mostly supportive of Luke Brooks and thought that he copped more crap than he deserved when he was here, I still find it entertaining to see his new club struggling at the moment with him steering them around the park, as most predicted would be the case when he was forced to be the chief play maker.

Their current lack of success is especially satisfying while they have a number of ex Wests Tigers players in their team.

If that is not reason enough then we should respect legend Geo's hate for the silver tails and use any available reason to keep up the hate.

I think they beat most of the top four when Turbo was available, if people are looking for a one man team, that’s your guy.

The Brooks' ship sailed long ago. He wanted to go and as soon as he left our club that was it for me.

I understand the dislike for the Sea Eagles from Magpie fans due to the history between the clubs. The Tigers always had a good relationship with the Sea Eagles due to Frank Stanton, Steve Martin, Ian Thompson, Shannon Nevin and co.

Would someone mind informing me the history? Unfortunately I am a tad bit ignorant.

I was a 16 yo westie at the time and bought right onto Roy's story's... It was great psychological warfare and the Magpies used it well
I saw later on as I matured exactly what it really was... Mainly BS... but at the time as a teenager living in a dump of a rented unit in Enfield and working as a labourer in an engineering factory... I could relate

Balmain had both Frank Stanton and Ron Willey who coached at Manly before they came to the Tigers, both were really great blokes and easy to talk to.I had no hate for the eagles but wanted them to lose most of the time. Both were good coaches for us

Thank you very much, educating myself now.
The short story is that the Magpies operated on the bones of their backside budget wise but still produced good teams and discovered superstars like Dorahy , Brown and Boyd that Manly would steal, sometimes only for the purpose of weakening the Magpies as a threat to Manly. Their chief executive Arthurson admitted to doing that.
The greatest afternoons of my football watching life were watching Wests bash Manly, then outplay them. It was a beautiful thing.
My hatred for Manly will never die.
