sorry but liam foran and DCE were and are a far better combo than austin and brooks. If moses was heavier, then you could make that argument but austin was stuck behind average halves at penrith.

I never said they weren't better? Simply stating that persisting with young halves who have little FG experience between them can pay off. You don't need an old head there. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

CB, Have you forgotten that our fullback has played under 20 games of first grade too? Thats already less than 30 games experience across 3 key positions, what you said is true but not when you have 3 unexperienced playmakers on the field. How will we shut out our games, are we going to rely entirely on farah to steer the ship? Imagine we go into golden point and we have no experienced and mature players….

Last comment I heard from Potter regarding Brooks is that "he is in no doubt to play round 1". This also goes for Farah so I'm thinking Farah Brooks Anasta Tedesco will be our spine for round 1.

It was very pleasing knowing that Austin can play halfback. He is the perfect depth signing for injuries to Brooks or Anasta.

I don't think we'll see Brooks in round 1 and I don't think that's a bad thing. If he isn't 100% fit I don't see the need to rush him in. Especially if he's carrying a back injury.

If the news of stress fractures to the back are correct I also think he will not start the season. There has to be some patience shown here for the young guy ,his time will come sooner rather than later..I like the look of Austin at this stage and he is fully fit..

Luke looks like a player who builds himself into a game… Starting from the bench might be a good way to give him experience, but I don't feel he is an 'impact' type of player.

Austin will be in Reggies unless we have injuries!

I don't agree with your view on Austin Watto, but you may be right. Personally I feel he should be in the 6 jersey outside Brooks. He's dropped a lot of weight in the offseason, looks very keen based on the reports from last night's trial, his kicking game was effective and he's got a lot more zip than Anasta. He may end up starting in reggies, but I reckon if he can achieve the consistency he's striving for, he has enough talent to dislodge Anasta.

Consistency has been his biggest problem in his senior career to date, matched with a major ego from all reports I have heard… So if he can improve on these aspects, he should be pushing for a spot.

One thing is for certain, Ivan Cleary and Phil Gould aren't mugs when it comes to identifying and grooming NRL Talent?!

The same people who chose Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace as their first choice halves pairing AREN'T mugs? Ha!…

i love having a problem of who to pick

theyre hard to split anasta and austin, still got 9s and a trial to see if austin really is head and shoulders above braith and if so he mighttttt start (although unlikely).

anasta will probably be 1st pick and i cant fault potter for this (although im sure many here will want his contract terminated…. ). Anasta is experienced, calm and can guide brooks, teddy and all the young forwards around the park well. He was playing injured and out of necessity (i think) last year, so ill give him the benfit of the doubt especially since he played decently last night.

if anasta doesnt work we can always bring in austin and even moltz in a few months.

I wish the problem of choosing players was of some quality players

The thought of Anasta ,Austin or Moltzen at 6 won't scare too many NRL sides in my opinion

Moses might , but then they will target their attack at him which at his stage of development could be a bad thing and do him some serious injuries

true, but competition tends to bring out the best in players. maybe thats what we saw yday?

austin or anasta mightnt scare people, but i reckon they can get the job done ESPECIALLY with luke brooks partnering and some fantastic finishers.

hahaha… Both have played SOO so I think its safe to say both have Talent.

Watto,
I think you'll find that they had pretty big wraps on him…
But their current outlay commands they get results a little quicker than
they thought he could bring them.
They were also trying to push him into a centre or lock position
- that he wasn't real fond of...

He really was commanding in the trial, Great talker and straight into the line.
I personally would prefer to see him at 6...

But the kid is a real coup!!!

I don't know if you were setting me up for this comment Watto , but they did play for NSW so the talent thing is questionable (Watto puts Happy through the gap and he scores under the posts untouched :roll )

As sad as it is to have that much pressure on a youngster,it looks as though Brooks is the face of the Tigers at the moment so Potter will find it extremely difficult to keep him out of 1st grade. Injury is the only thing that will stop Brooks. The Tigers are building for the future.
