Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

It didn't take the Roosters long to decide on Hastings. This is not his first rodeo.

lol. what a stupid argument.

You really don't see it do you. Most people support the team. If a player is bad they want him out of the team. If Hastings goes back to clashing with teams like he did...a decade ago... then sure, punt him too.

Brooks has had the tools at his disposal in the past. A common misconception is that he hasn't had the talent around him in the spine to win games. This is a fallacy, he made up a spine that consisted of NSW fullback and two time premiership winner James Tedesco, a routine finals attendee and NSW origin half Mitch Moses and premiership winner and NSW origin hooker in Robbie Farah. He has also played behind forward packs that contained James Gavet, Martin Taupau, Keith Galloway and Aaron Woods, internationals and origin players among those three of those four as well. I believe that Keith Galloway holds the weird stat of being our most successful player in that he won more games at the Tigers than any other player.

He is also paid very good money to be the marquee man. It's not his fault the club has offered him good money, I'll concede that, but he obviously needs to acknowledge that for the remuneration he receives there is an expectation that a certain level of output and responsibility to lead the team. He has not lived up to that expectation. He has on occasion come up with the play, not nearly enough to justify the money or longevity of his career at the club. That's what it boils down to. He does not have what it takes to be the player that will take us to the next level. Halves are meant to make the team better around them. Penrith are markedly not as good when Cleary is not available for them. Easts have not recovered post Cronk. Brooks does not lift, or direct, the players around him.

To persist with him is a perfect example of the sunk cost fallacy. We turfed Madge after 3.5 years of poor performances which is fair enough, when is Brooks held to account for 9 years of poor performances?

How'd that Origin Hooker go Making finals with Generational talent like Benji Marshall?
And most of the other players you've mentioned?
3/14 Was it?

And they weren't 18 years old like Brooks was when you started evaluating him.

That is my opinion. It's based on the fact that Mitchell Pearce who is a better halfback that won a premiership with the club and routinely led them to the finals was turfed because they were not satisfied that he took them far enough, often enough.
Mitchell Pearce always had a strong team around him. Reality check - Woods, Tedesco, Moses, Simona, JAC etc all out the door He stayed. Replacements (no disrespect to players concerned) are not of that quality,

😂😂😂😂
Did you watch that game? Pearce was absent for most of it.
How'd he go in Origin?

That said, Mitch Pearce is a top 5 Half... Brooks isn't - And unless we're getting one
What exactly is your argument?
Brooks is in the best 2 halves at the club at the moment - Same as Laurie is the Best Fullback...
Are there better halves and Fullbacks in the comp - Yes there are....

Are there better Halves and Fullbacks in our squad - NO.

Yes, and what happened with all those players, sans Simona obviously?

Methinks there's a common theme there.

"Oh, but Brooksy is loyal!" Where has that ****ing got us?
Yes the common theme is if you lose players of that quality, the performance of the team including your half is impacted. In addition. being one of the better players in the team and having those good players leave means you will receive greater targeting from the opposition

My point was clear. Successful clubs identify and secure successful players. Mug clubs like ours stick with loyal players who won't rise to that level of success. This goes beyond just Brooks. Brooks is copping the Ash Taylor treatment, and fairly so.

Yes and they all went on to be successful elsewhere. They were here with Brooks. Did Brooks lift around them? I'll wait.

Yes check the highlights reels for those years. Recall the Tedesco/Brooks combination in try scoring? Why didn't we see that under Maguire with Laurie?

That was effective wasn't it. Took us to many finals series as I remember!

Lets look at this:

Brooks, since 2013: try assists 106 from 187 games
DCE, since 2014: try assists 158 from 194 games
Moses, since 2014: try assists 133 from 188 games

But Brooks could put Teddy through a gap!

He's done mate.
