Nice place you guys have here! As a passionate Bulldogs fan becoming more and more interested in the Tigers side I thought it pertinent that I come on board and see what Tigers fans are all about. So far so good!
My thoughts on the 'General':
1)- He truly personifies what an old-school General is. He 'leads' from the back, barking useless commands, expecting everyone else to do his dirty work for him (tackles, kick-retrievals) and performs terribly when he is forced into the action defensively.
2)- The man NEVER catches a kick on the full, EVER! And he loves letting his wingers get crunched on a kick return (he lets them retrieve the ball or passes it to them on most occasions). Scared.
3)- He misses at least 9 out of 10 crucial try saving tackles, and does so with such acrobatics that its embarrassing now (the other 1 out of 10 he is successful only due to the mistake of the attacking player). Have you seen him jump two metres over a player running for the line? I swear, most opposition players who see Luke coming don't even ATTEMPT to get around him, they just plough straight through him. Did you see his attempts on the Warriors players last week? Pathetic. No upper-body strength of any sort. Vatuvei could have played on crutches and still demolished this guy.
4)- He cares more about 'marketing', 'PR', and his future role at the Dogs rather than his downward sliding playing ability. Read his interviews and see what we talks about whenever he is on TV, its disgusting. The poor guy thinks he will be the next coach of the Dogs or something.
5)- If you carefully watch the way he positions himself when the opposition is attacking the line and poised to score, he is ALWAYS in the wrong place at the wrong time and just 'makes' it after the try is scored to try and make it look like he attempted to do something about it. A pure magicians trick, distracting the viewer from how terrible his reads of the play are. When me and my mates watch Dogs games we sing, in chorus sometimes, "WHERE WAS LUKE PATTEN THIS TIME?!" almost every time a try is scored.
6)- We will NEVER win a premiership with such a liability at the back. The other Dogs players must spend half their time fearing an opposition player breaking the line so much that they concentrate on covering Luke and so aren’t able to focus on their own position. People blame Jamal Idris or Steve Turner for the tries that come down their wing. I don’t, I blame Luke.
7)- Ill have Beau Ryan over Luke Patten ANY TIME! Ill even take Albert Kelly
He has some flair in attack, don’t get me wrong, but in my years of watching Luke play I have come to truly dislike the man. No amount of tries, or try assists, that he makes can ever compensate us either on the scoreboard, or in the minds of Doggies players, for the amount of missed tackles, bad reads, and lazy returns he makes. Just imagine the Doggies actually kick-returned on the full…wow, what a halcyon thought...no wonder our players are so lethargic after such a short amount of time!
I would like to say good luck to the Tigers this weekend, but honestly, the Dogs will need it a whole lot more. Turner to fullback! Barba to start! Patten out! That’s what we need if the Dogs want to win. Otherwise, Patten for Tigers Man of the Match and a rivetting Tigers victory by 24.
