Remember Newcastle Pre Ponga / Mitchell Pearce.

That's where we are right now.

The next approach to a gun player needs to be on the quiet as the Bad PR is killing us

Ah not entirely sure if I want to be Newcastle post-Ponga / Pearce. Not exactly going to plan.

No and nobody has ever mentioned that this season was Newcastle’s first appearance in the finals in 8 years. Only 1 year shy of our drought and they were immediately bundled out. Nothing much to crow about in the Hunter and their roster is decidedly better than ours!

It's something in the club that turns players away. Identity perhaps? I was hoping Madge would be an attraction but that doesn't seem to be working.

I think it's way too early to judge Maguire's capacity to attract quality players. The bigger issue, in my opinion, is WT's standing among the NRL elite, and that may have very little to do with Maguire.

Yes - they would probably pat him on the back for getting out if he walked. I'm just hoping the tough stuff that Maguire is noted for allows him to get on with it and ignore the white noise. Time will tell.

I'm not sure Madge can turn this around for us, he just doesn't seem like a man manager, not sure he can change his approach but if he can't he will find himself on the scrap heap.

Have an honest read of our squad. Sir Alex Ferguson or Vince Lombardi would be Buckley’s chance

Why doesn't he just get a really good off-sider, assistance coach, who can do the man management. Someone not a threat to him, a sidekick, a Robin.

Now everyone on the forum is believing everything the media hacks at the DT rag write about Maguire - I give up.

I dont think the DT have been wrong, they were correct with JAC
we need to live with us being average until we lose Packer and Reynolds
very easy to blame certain aspects of media but fact is we are not and have not signed anybody of note yet

Don't forget Mbye.

My only disappointment as such has been that I'd have thought that Maguire as the current NZ coach and one with links to ESL should have had some success in luring up and comers from both GB & NZ wanting a crack at NRL and possible further recognition by their national teams.

Cant really recall any success with that supposed linkage- it was supposed to get us over the line with DWZ in spite of our lack of cash compared with Bulldogs. But didnt........................

I'm interested to see what our team looks like in 2022 and 2023. Madge and co will have plenty of cash, and an idea of what the junior recruits look like.

Exciting times I reckon

Will Madge be here in 2022?

50/50 I reckon.

I’m worried about this too. I’d never thought much about it until now. The last year or so seeing players thinking about joining the club and getting cold feet is a red flag. Players are within their rights to make decisions that are best for their future but it’s not a good sign for us in talent attraction. Trying not to get down about it but I don’t feel good about future marquee signings. Hopefully our juniors will lead the way but we’ll have to remain patient.

Rubbish. Wests tigers create cult players, we thrive off personality and have a huge following. Look at Taupau and gavet. Cult heroes with us and beige wherever they went. (Marty was good, just not a cult hero anymore), MR 2040 cult hero to zero. Daine Laurie mk i, MCK, Gibbs, Fulton, beau... all from us. Dwyer tuiaki hell even (sorry to mention him after the last 2) Anastasia wanted to be a cult hero (until he realised heroes bring their own tape and we worked out he was a pea heart). Garlic sauce falls into this category as well. Cult with us, the next role with the silver tails..beige. Mark my words.

JAC would have fit right in, but he wants to be a bit player. Who cares. Crichton would work though, All the hallmarks or a cult hero at the tigers. BJ - maybe, AJ possible, AD - almost there.tommy, tommy’s got that spark (who would argue with the Samoans cheering him in - huge humans...HUGE).

about the centre of excellence at Penrith

They were similarly under performers like Tigers

By the time it was built in 2016 they had only made 3 semi finals appearances since their last premiership

Since built made 4 out of 5 semis including a grand final.

Coincidence? Maybe

But like modern working world day to day job satisfaction players could be attracted or keep current players for less who knows.

But even if it helps 5% improvement could be difference from bottom 8 to top 8

Penrith also benefit from a juniors pathway system as well that they are now seeing the rewards of.

Just a reminder, Madge is not in charge of recruitment, though he does have input.

Wests Tigers 2021 Football Department

Adam Hartigan — General Manager – Football
Michael Maguire — NRL Head Coach
Shane Millard — NRL Assistant Coach
Wayne Collins — NRL Assistant Coach
Andrew Gray — Head of Performance
Matthew Jay — NRL Performance Coach
Aaron Sculli — NRL Performance Coach
James Wright — NRL Football Manager and Leadership Consultant

What's really weird I can't decide if loosing DWZ was a brilliant move or a bad move.

If we could get him for 200-300k from the dogs out of form. dWZ could be an answer to our back problems and we can spend the rest on an actual forward pack.

Don't give up @Spud_Murphy, pity them that they read the rubbish to begin with. That they then feel "informed" enough to post a comment is a bigger worry. Murdoch media is not known for presenting evidence and facts. I wouldn't trust them to get the date right.

But the SMH or ABC you would??? right

It would be a boost for supporters for the Club to release information detailing the very good young players we have signed for next year.
