Madge

I don't think there is any argument about the strength of the Broncos off the field and their financial ability to assemble a quality outfit - they don't do rebuilds they just top up. However with all their wealth and resources it's been 19 years since a premiership and Maguire has managed to play a part in achieving that in his first season
2 premierships in 19 years, but also 4 grandfinals
storm have played in 11*
both backed by News Corp

Roosters backed by Politis have played in maybe 5 grandfinals with 3 wins

The only other clubs with multiple premierships/ grandfinals are Manly, Penrith (Gould secured Packer's money in 2013), Souths (Packer/Crowe $$).

Then you have your lone winners in Sharks, Cowboys, Dragons

To your point that compared to Storm, Roosters and Penrith, Brisbane has underachieved, but they're on par with Souths.

Souffs have only won once since the start of the NRL so the donkeys have been more succesful.

Madge was on a hiding to nothing at the Broncos this year flogging them the way he was flogging us. The senior players intervened & said he needs to change his ways or it'll basically end like how it ended for you at Wests. That's the difference Brisbane had the senior leadership at Wests he didn't.
Something happened mid season. Maybe Madge was drilling football first into them from the start. Matty Johns mentioned when Madge first started preseason he couldn’t believe how unfit they all were. Walsh mentioned when started the season he was spending 100% of his time on football and had no time for his family, when got injured he spent the majority of the time with his family; can’t remember if that was Madges suggestion or Walsh’s request but it clearly gave him perspective. Their performance uplift also coincided with their bye rounds. Maybe we’ll read about it in a book one day.
Either way; it’s proof that you need not only talent but commitment and incredible fitness to win the comp.

Madge got the axe-man job to clear the roster like Jason Taylor and Potter did.

Usually those guys don't last because no one is patient enough to see it through. I think Ricky Stuart is a good example of a club seeing it through to the coaches vision however long it takes.
I don’t necessarily agree that Madge cleared the roster, I feel that was more done in the Kimmorely / sheens appointment.

I reckon Ricky had the hatchet job at Parramatta: in one year he moved on 14 players.

He was employed to...unfortunately Cleary left us with big and long contracts for busted and/or underperforming players. Looking at his 2019 squad...it's no wonder he couldn't sign players. Who'd want to play with that rabble.

Ricky at parra was the same as Ivan here. He got an opportunity to go back to Canberra and took it. Done it better than Ivan though
Think otherwise he had more years at parra

It's only taken 10 rounds for Madge, (supposedly a super coach 'with the right players'), to turn the Brisbane Broncos into something approximating the Wests Tigers circa 2019. He would have absolutely flogged those players into abject misery in the offseason, and smashed them in the sheds after every defeat. He's got something about him but he's no supercoach.
Boy this aged well. Hahahaha.

He turned it around that's for sure. Broncos were a moments team this season, and I was impressed that the senior players approached him around the time of this post, and just told him to chill out, and that he listened.

Madge has had two great teams built for him now. I still stand by this comment, yeah - he is a very good coach but not the kind of guy to build a team. All the great, decisive players that made up his premiership winning teams were already there as he joined. Let's see how they go and if they drop off as much as souths did after their title.
