The battle for top spot on the NSW State Cup ladder will be up for grabs when Wests Tigers feeder clubs, Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies, go head to head at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday, May 8.

The Tigers have won seven of their eight matches to lead the competition on 14 points, one point clear of the Magpies, who have won six from eight games.

Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers will field five players with NRL experience in Mitch Brown, Blake Lazarus, David Gower, Willie Mataka and Arana Taumata compared to the Magpies’ three in Geoff Daniela, Nathan Waters and Simon Dwyer.

Western Suburbs go into the match on the back of a 36-22 victory over Cronulla Sharks at Leichhardt Oval last Saturday in round eight in which centre Andrew Everingham scored two tries in the victory.

The Tigers accounted for Central Coast 28-18 with full-back Sean Meaney also grabbing two tries in the win.

The last time the two teams met saw the Tigers record a 20-14 victory in round two with Lazarus grabbing two tries.

The clash between Lazarus and Waters will be an entertaining one after both halves were called up to make their NRL debuts with Wests Tigers in recent weeks.

Lazarus, Waters and Arana Taumata will be keen to impress as they fight for the Wests Tigers half-back spot alongside Robert Lui, who is tipped to return from an ankle injury next week against South Sydney.Lui was the preferred NRL half-back until injury struck.

Kick-off at Campbelltown Sports Stadium is 3pm.

At least Fletcher knows a half back when he see one, by putting Lazo at 7 , and AJ on the bench.
Nicholls though outshone them both last Saturday, as young Blake looked obviously down on confidence , with Sheens doing a good number on him…he will bounce back though this Saturday

this video is from the double header last week

I was hoping Taumata was going to play the whole game so he could show if he is fit enough to play firstgrade the week after. I think we need to get him into the firstgrade team quick smart.

…. and neither played halfback. Still shaking my head at Sheens team selections. Waters selected as a backup hooker and hasn't played in the position all year. Lazarus selected and gets moved around positions. Great confidence builder that Commander Sheens. Thank god its a Sheens free weekend as he has done my head in!

Be interested to see what teams actually take the field. The Wests forwards are really impressing me this year as is the teams attitude in defence. They will be tested this week by the Balmain pack. Hopefully Wests can take there chances this time around.

i guess the rumours of sheens getting mullaney to play fullback for wests this game were false

true

Hey smeg you might know the answer to this, Who was that the Asian looking person with the long balck hair, wearing the black leotards, and the tigers cap sitting on the hill at leichhardt oval , shouting out lollie legs when the wests player was shooting for goal at the first double header a few weeks ago, ? not sure if it was a male or female ,very hard to tell ???

I think we all were watching that game where the team could barely stay in 1st gear.

There is only one thing that matters about the person you refer to. He is staunch. He has seen this reserve grade side through the highs and lows over the years
