Dare I say if WE have success will it be THE MICHAEL MAGUIRE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Chris Lawrence COE I hope. At least a section of it.

You couldn't have named a more deserving player than Chris Lawrence @mike .
And if the sporting gods were a little kinder and things turned out differently...the Taniel Tuiaki/Simon Dwyer COE.

I understand that there are several aspects of the COE. Each area may be named, so you never know.

Just listened to the interview. I didn't hear or comprehend anything that was negative and I didn't lose any respect for the coach. Some of the rumours around things at this place are just perpetuated by grizzling sooks on this forum, probably undercover journos, player managers and people who wear tin foil hats. Sort through that garbage and away we go.

I hope he re-signs and if the fans supported him like they should, we wouldn't be having these conversations.

Its because the Interviewers don't ask any hard questions its a boys club they all look after each other.
Why was Mcintyre not offered a contract.
Have you put pen to paper on a 2 year extension.
Cricket questions seriously ??????

To be honest, I thought the McIntyre questions was answered. He would have liked to keep him, he was fond of him, but salary cap pressures dont make it easy to retain these players.

And his own contract, not sure its worthy of mention either. I'd like him to stay, but has a formal offer been made to extend him? he has not put pen to paper on an extension, otherwise it would have been announced. So why even ask that question? It was reported some time ago that he has agreed verbally to the extension, but there is interest elsewhere and he will sign when he is good and ready, not because he is pressured into it because of a question in a podcast. I can understand why he has not formally signed, especially with a Melbourne opportunity coming up. He is probably, and expectedly, see where WT is heading into 2021 and the same with Melbourne.

Not sure why you expect the spanish inquisition on a run of the mill podcast.

Mcintyre - a BS reply salary cap. (That's what i don't like)
Quote from Player was not even offered a contract to stay.

More than one thing can be true at once.

Let assume that the report that he wasnt offered a contract is true (nothing to prove that but lets assume). It could also be true that McIntyre could have come to the club and said "I have been offered $XXXK from the Titans which for arguments sake could be $ 150-200K more than we were going to offer *due to salary cap pressure* and we said "Good luck mate".

Your point warranted however we let so many players go and Madge even stated wanted to retain - no offer is unacceptable.

Salary cap pressure we signed Jimmy the Jet instead another former Souths player. Lets just see how that works out on BJ form this last season not that great maybe?????

Jimmy the jet is on $20K over minimum wage. Someone has to have that roster slot and you are literally getting a recent SOO player on minimum wage, so yes, that helps enormously with salary cap pressure.

With regards to no offer unacceptable, speaking for myself personally, I wouldn't embarrass myself offering someone I respected $200K less, I would just say "great mate, good luck".

So you would be happy for your employer to replace you without giving you the benefit of a negotiation prior to see if a suitable arrangement can be negotiated?

If it meant that my new employer was giving me an extra $200K, not much of doubling my old employers wage, I would be ecstatic.

Seriously, we are looking for problems that arent there. Madge said McIntyre couldnt be kept because of salary cap pressure and he loves him. EVERY signing or letting go is due to salary cap pressure.

Post from another Forum Member. (Spot On)

I get the impression that the club has organized the roles in the recruitment and retention process so that Madge plays the sympathetic, almost father-figure type role, while Hartigan is the hard man making the tough decision.

For example, Benji approaches Madge and says that he has heard that he won’t be offered a new deal. This is news to Madge. He tells Benji to give him 24 hours and he will see what he can do. He comes back to Benji full of sympathy. “I’m sorry Benji, but the decision has been made…”.

McIntyre phones Madge and says that he still hasn’t received a formal offer from the club and that the Titans have tabled an offer, which he has accepted. Madge expresses surprise and regret that he is going. He tells Macca that he wanted to keep him. Obviously the football department has stuffed up…

This way, Madge stays on good terms with the playing group while Hartigan plays the role of the man making the unpopular decisions.

In the long run you get found out and the playing group lose respect because nothing is transparent its just a blame game as long as your not the one being blamed.

I see your point, I dont agree with it at all but you are more than entitled to your opinion.

A hell of a lot of asssumptions in this other members post and in your assumption that McIntyre was not made any offer.

Regardless, he wasnt valued to the point that the club kept him. Its a tough decision but one that is made every year in 16 clubs. I would have liked him to stay, but not at any price. I am also very happy with the overall picture of the squad being developed at the moment and that gives me encouragement to let these guys just do their job.

I love the respectful way you debate @Tiger5150 .
RE..."I see your point, I don't agree with it at all but you are more than entitled to your opinion".

Thanks mate, not necessarily a widely held view

I know what you are saying only to well @Tiger5150.
I find I now have to spend a fair bit of time in getting my words out correctly before I hit the Submit button, and even then I get it wrong sometimes.
But Yuh can't please everyone all the time as they say.
Just be true to yourself, as our lives are to short not to be entitled to have our say....particularly once you turn 70 as I did nearly 4 years ago.

What happen if we finish with the spoon in 21 …another massive payout …no eggshells left and another debt that we can’t afford

I think you need to increase your anti-depressant prescription from 1 bucket a day to 2.

We'll make the finals next season. Absolutely 100% confident of that. We took it to a lot of the frontrunners last year. We'll be 6th or above in my opinion. The forwards are looking awesome. The backs are gonna take us on a ride. Its gonna be fun. Hang on tigers fans.

Forwards look great, but rarely score tries. We lack strike power in the backs, yet most of the talk is about signing more forwards.Jimmy was a good risk for the money, but other then that,we have not bought anyone of note for next year.I can only guess that we have negotiations going on behind the scenes.

Our forwards were poor last year. We struggled to contain our opponent's momentum in the middle and it was a hard slog getting out of our own end.

When we had decent field position we had no problem scoring tries. We were 7th on the ladder for tries scored. That is a pretty remarkable stat when you think of how little ball and field position we enjoyed in most matches.

I reckon our problems last season started and ended with the forwards. So I think that is the logical place to focus our recruitment.
