This is the best news! I've only been following NRL since 2005 but Benji Marshall and his magic step was the main reason I started following the Tigers religiously. Glad to see he will be a one man club!

Tigers for Life!

We now have Marshall,Farah,Moltzen,Lawrence,Ayshford,Tuqiri,Galloway,Ryan signed for at least 2-3 seasons. That squad can win us another comp i'm sure.

This is awesome news. Benji was looking like becoming a great player last year. If his form continues we have signed one of the best possible signings in the NRL on a long term deal.

I think having Lote is huge but this is heaps better. Wests Tigers management are really stepping up.

THis will certainly help in landing the next big fish for 2011

Well done Humph and Sheensy you have made my day

I think its great news, Marshall who started his career as a player with the lighting speed and dazzling feet I think will mature into a player with a great passing game and maybe a great football brain. With the likely hood of the salary cap being increased with the new tv deal up for grabs Benji will be well looked after.

Ps the zoo?? Year of the tiger a photo shoot in front of the tiger cage

For me - and alot of others on this forum, this is some of the best news in a long time.

Better than any other signing we have made.

Farah for 4 Years, and Marshall for 5\. The core of our team committing to the cause for majority of their careers.

Stability brings success, and if this is the case : my hat goes off to Stephen Humphries. He has done a fantastic job.

"Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall is set to sign a long-term deal with the NRL club, putting an end to doubts over his future with the Tigers and rugby league.

A report on the Nine Network - with whom Marshall has a deal to appear on The Footy Show - claimed the New Zealand Test skipper would sign a lifetime deal with the club.

Club officials, who earlier in the day scheduled a press conference for Thursday, refused to comment on the speculation, though it is believed Marshall will re-sign through to the end of the 2015 season.

Such a long deal could be seen by some as a risk for the Tigers given Marshall's poor injury record, but the 24-year-old missed only one game in 2009 to give hope that the worst of his shoulder troubles were behind him.

Speculation all was not right between Marshall and the club surfaced during last year's Four Nations tour, when coach Tim Sheens revealed some factions at the club wanted the playmaker out.

It is believed those factions felt the club had not seen a return on their investment given Marshall's long run with injury when he was limited to just 41 games over three years from 2006-2008.

Marshall also spent the 2008-09 off-season exploring his options in rugby union, even suggesting he could shuffle between the two codes during the year.

Just weeks out from the start of the NRL season, Marshall's signature would be a massive boost for the game, particularly coming on the back of Jarryd Hayne's re-signing with Parramatta last month."

Thoughts?

Ahh…I think I worked it out........seems a lot of fuss...just to extend a players contract albeit ...Benji..

Could there be more than 1....

Tuqiri returning earlier than expected.....

Or as I suspect.....With the signing of Benji Marshall 4 Life....Wests Tigers are pleased to announce the extention of Tim Sheens contract till 2013.......Happy days......

Marshall is obviously a pretty impressive and loyal person. He has rock star status but he doesn't carry on like a Thurston, Sonny Bill or Lote with their tedious contract wrangling. All the fans of our club should be proud of him. The more people like him in the competition, the better off it will be.

He just gave himself a Birthday present! A contract extension! Gotta love it!
:sunglasses:

I really respect this bloke. He has taken a big step in being a true "Legend of League".

The NZ captaincy could have gone to his head or even his outrageous talent, but somehow Benji has grown to be a real superstar of the NRL in all facets. He realises his responsibilities as a player, captain and role model! He does plenty for the kids with charity work, he also is very loyal and thankful to his peers, fans and this great club for sticking it out with him when his life, health and career were in crisis.
:master:

Well done Benji, I honestly believe that we still havent seen the best of you as an NRL player.

Dare to Dream….........Make us Dream......................and turn those dreams into reality in 2010 and beyond!
:master:

I'd be absolutely stoked. Given the mooted salary cap increase, I find it pretty hard to believe any player would be extending to that length. Perhaps the deal includes a certain % of any future salary cap increases?

Mixed feelings on this. Just last week i was hoping some youngsters would come through over the next 2 years that allow us to let Benji go….........but at the same time, if he plays consistantly, it will be great to have him as a life long Tiger.

The first part of your statement is a pretty piss poor outlook on our clubs attitude toward retention and recruitment. For years we have bitched and complained that WT recruitment and retention policy was ridiculous when players like Laffranchi, Lima, Hodgson, Prince and even just recently Gallant, were all allowed to walk free but when we want to retain one of the clubs true talents, for his playing career more or less (and in a day and age where loyalty means next to squat,) there are still want to complain.

Sure Benji is still delievering rocks and diamonds, but I'd always rather see him in the Black, White and Gold before any other colours. And with this security for his future, perhaps it might be the catalyst for consistency.

The glass is always half full Sirro

There's just something magic and sentimental about it. I'll be gutted if Benji isn't able to deliver another premiership in that period of time, but all the same, I'd still be might proud we had such a phenomenal player as a one club man. Especially since it's almost a formality that Farah will be with him all the way.

My spies tell me Daniel Fitzhenry will be signing a similar deal.

Yes that's right, Fitzy's manager CT spent months finalising the contract.

I'm working on it…..won't be long before i can give you girls more breaking news..

There's a lot of people that talk shit, I thought you were one of them CT. I gotta give credit on this. As soon as I read this thread, the one you started came to mind.

Produce another one like that and you can consider me a convert.
