Marshall - Long Term

It's a big year for him. To me he looks a bit overweight and he looks non plussed. SOme of the careless things he did tonight like short drop outs and bombs going backwards you expect off a rookie. Has he really still go the hunger to get better?? Im looking at his body language the last 2 years and Im not seeing the ULTIMATE DESIRE to get better. If he doesn't to it this year at 28, will be ever really improve??. Im sure he will kill a few poor sides this year and he will pull a few games out for us.

He has been fantastic for this club over the years both on and off the park. He has made us a really popular Sydney club and a decent side. However is the bubble bursting?? Has he already played his best football and with a yard of speed gone and 10% hunger gone can be become ELITE again?? Lets be honest he was really poor most of last year and half of 2011.

Look there are many bigger problems out there then Benji. We still need him. We would be much worse without him at the minute. However you have to look LONG TERM. When you have a very unbalanced roster sometimes you have to think, well maybe I can get 2 or 3 quality first graders in different positions if we trade this one.

It might be worth a thought down the track.

I don't know why he is alawys wanting to bulk up. He has always been at his best when he could zip across field showing it with both hands then burst through confused defenders.

These days he lumbers sideways then grubbers it when he realizes nothing is on.

Benji needs to take a step back IMO. Miller needs to be given more responsibility and told that he is in control of the team and benji touches it twice a set. This is when he is most dangerous, he isn't a thurston or johns who can dictate a whole set. He is a cliff Lyons who will take advantage of the good lead up previously.

I've always said rob lui was a bigger loss then Scott prince, nothing has changed my mind about that.

It's pretty sad when we are in round one and he just looks as if he couldn't give a shit. Looks like he doesn't want to be there.

Marshall long term easy

If he doesn't perform in 2013 we get rid of him while he might be worth a quid or two

Any other suggestion could only be based on a major improvement

Unfortunately with many of our players are in the same boat as Marshall

Lawrence ,Blair ,Ayshford ,Moltzen,BMM etc etc etc will only keep market value for a limited time and after that we are even in more trouble than we currently are (If thats possible)

Apparently he was 15/15 tonight in terms of tackles, one of which was a try saver (lol @ Boyd not getting a try and getting MOM over Uate). I would say his game was reasonable if you take the kicking out of it tonight. Nothing brilliant but as solid as Benji gets.

Maybe a move out of the halves, sacrifice a winger with tackling over speed and send him back out to the centres defending on the wing. Give us a chance to blood some halves without him syphoning all the ball, yet not lose the attacking potency he occasionally brings to the game. He is still an infectious sort of player so may rub off some on the young fellas. Its not like we would be risking all that much with our centres playing like they are either.

He needs to drop some of the kicking too, he often makes poor choices at the ends of sets, not much of a goal kicker and has brain snaps like this evening with the drop outs.

Whats he supposed to do with so little ball? I really cant understand the hate for Marshall on this site lately.

Hardly Marshalls fault we got smashed.

The forwards??

Not theirs either. Unless you count Anasta as a forward. Centres/Wingers were where we lost this match. In attack and in defence. Utterly inept. Our front row was fine, Fulton's side of our backrow was passable.

Galloway cranked out 109 metres in attack, a very good effort considering how little ball the Tigers had. Buchanan made 82 metres, not bad for a youngster on debut, and again, the Tigers only had a paltry 37% of the football compared to Newcastle…The next best forward was Woods with 31 metres (notwithstanding Farah made 89). That says a bit about what sort of platform Benji had to play off last night.

I thought Benji had a go last night. The reason for the short dropouts were that we faced a strong breeze and he was trying to sit the ball up high and hold it in the wind…....it was worth a try

I think it was worth a try once but twice for the same result, not so much

Maybe if 9,7 and 6 took control when we did have the ball

Most times bringing the ball back we looked like a dogs breakfast and bunched in a tight ball within 10 metres of the ruck (even in the first half) No wonder we turned so much ball over

Pretty sure of our last 5 sets in the first half we turned the ball over 4 times A telling stat at a important point of the match

And what of Miller's and Anasta's kicking games ….. Miller kicked the ball once and don't remember Anasta kicking at all

benji was one of the few good players last night, in a team that got smashed he held more than his own in defence and saved at least one try. he's way down the list of players that should be ridiculed

Give Benji a competent backline to serve. Lawrence and Ayshford must be replace by Brien and Thompson. Tedesco at fullback and Utai to reserves bench and replaced by Nofoulama. Give Koroibete another go at Wing. Keep Anasta out of the forward pack and have him at halfback. Pettybourne to replace Anasta at second row.

One positive for Benji last night was his defence. I cant remember ever seeing him have a dig like that before. The try saver on Boyd was a beauty.

Now can Benji please stop the little grubbers in the opponents 20m line mid way through the tackle count?
