There is absolutely NO way Australian Rugby wld be interested in Benji..
Firstly,Waratahs can only provide a couple of hundred $$ max,the balance coming from an ARU top up.Ya reckon ARU wld be interested in yet another non tackling high risk taking (3 points per penalty remember) 29 yo who has lost his mojo when they have a much younger version of the same in Quade Cooper with mojo intact…...who still cant make the Wallabies top 25 squad btw.
Frankly I have no idea why theres such a rush to resign a out of form but top $$ player who'se current contract expires end 2015 at which stage he'll be in his early 30s...he has no options in Australian Rugby,& no other NRL club wld be interested,so Japanese Rugby or WT is it for Benji for 2016.
Notwithstanding previous committments re current contracts which we shld honour,WT shld put all paperwork away for at least 12 months & see if Benji is capable of performances anything like what were currently paying him let alone another 4 years post 2015 at an even higher rate
Humphries,dont stuff this one up & leave us with another Blair situation
 
I think his manager still has Jap. Rugby as an option,the $ will go down if he gets dropped from the Kiwi side so lots of eggshells being walked on at the moment by Benji.
 
In regards to his contract he currently holds isn't there a clause stating with any cap increase he can negotiate more for himself,who knows what the parameters in that clause are.
If for example his renegotion isn't acceptable by his terms would his current contract not become null in void or would he have to honor it even if the upgrade wasn't much?
Anyone know more about something like that.
 
Who knows whats in Benjis current contract,but at best it wld be some sort of pro rata increase commensurate with any cap increase.
If thats whats in his contract,we are obliged to honor it (assuming we dont wish to alienate him =punt him immediately,& for the sake of Brooks/Moses long term future I think that wld be so).
It does make Benji VERY expensive(Im guessing around $800k+)for the next couple of years,& on past 18 mths form he's not worth half of that..& that may well be the current stumbling block.
Lets not even think (let alone talk) post 2015 at this stage..thats just Benjis manager trying to get them both a superannuation pot of gold
 
Benji has been great for us and I hope he stays but this sort of stuff is completely irrelevant to what we should be offering him. His performances on the field are the only thing that matters.

Benji leaving the NRL to elite pro rugby is total B.S. He is no longer playing at a standard high enough to justify signing him. Has nothing to offer union & would not attract a lucrative contract.

If the money was good he could leave the Tigers at the end of this year to join a team like Penrith or the NZ Warriors.

For too long Benji & the Tigers have relied on flashes of his freakish attacking talents to win games.
In a perfect (Tigers) world he would drop a bit of weight, do some training extras, tone down the ego, give new coach Potter his full support & play out his career as a Tiger.
 
I could not see any team in any code throwing him a massive amount of money. Been said a million times, Benji has never had the skills of a Fitler,Johns or Lockyer, he has different skills that have become less effective as time rolls on. On a club level he is still good but his ability to control a game and direct his team mates are not at the level the team needs.

Bottom line,Benji is always worth a few bob over the odds just on his profile alone,but this club has to make all sorts of very hard calls and Benji's contract will be one of the biggest. I would probably offer a reduced but fair contract and if he walks he walks,you than move on
 
i think the hardest part about this negotiation is the fact he has 2 years left on his deal obviously the clause on the increase in the contract due to the cap increase is the determining issue. the clause has to be something along the lines of with an increase of the cap by X% benjis contract must be renegotiated. so if they cannot come to an agreement on this new figure does that make his current contract void or will those terms just be carried on. it all really comes down to the wording of the contract but i can also guarantee that some players would have had pre made clauses saying cap goes up by X% player Y 's contract goes up by Z% no negotiations no issues

I asked a similar question but only benji his management and the club know ,maybe even the club doesn't know they seem pretty clueless with contracts
