I initially thought it was dumb to allow him to go but think the money he wanted? Not worth it and THINK JT may have made the right call on this one…...always tough at 1st getting your head around it.

You hit the nail on the head FT. Taupau isn't worth the massive money he is on. When you think back to last season and the massive amount of hype that built up around Marty,in reality he was only good for a handful of solid charges and that palmoff of Alex Johnston- I cannot remember him doing too much else that a normal plodder couldn't do. No bone rattling hits or trysaving cover defence,he is worth plenty as far as marketing etc goes but his actual worth on the field is minimal.
His biggest claim to fame was the Test match and his throat-slitting gesture.
Manly can have him,we will have Jessie Sue thanks very much. Much better value for money IMO.

Marty had the capacity to shine in big games like Tests and is pretty much the toughest out there and a good marketing tool.
Our young guys need someone like that.

He played well in 1 Test match.

As far as being the toughest out there, not so sure of that . He talks the talk as good as anybody and has the strut and pumped up muscles to go with it but on the one occasion last year when he was right there to stand up for Sue after Nuasaala gave him a slap Marty just stood there and wasn't at all interested in helping out his mate. Our blokes don't need that, I'd rather a bloke that at least stood up to Frank Paul.
The big cheesy grin when there is a bit of a stink doesn't really fool anybody anymore. Marty seems pretty good at the bluff but IMO he hasn't demonstrated that he is a hard man at all. I think FPN, Papaali, Waerea Hargreaves would all wipe the floor with smiley Marty.

2 years ago under Potter saw big Sam choose to run a different line to avoid Marty.

Big loss as far as I am concerned.
