Marty..

If you look at Marty's performance tonight you wouldnt be too upset about his departure. Didnt have a lot of impact and seemed to be gassed early - and late. And a shoulder charge charge to top the night off. Cant see him lining up against us next week.

Marty is on report for the hit on James Graham just before the Try before halftime and also Steve Matai and not sure if Brett Stewart is back next week ?
There beatable .

Lol "hit"
I cuddle my missus with more force than that
Can't see him doing time for that… Though I think he has prior shoulder charge offences

Didn't see the attempted shot on Graham from Tapau….just repeated what Warren Smith repeated that
" Taupau has been put on report for the hit on James Graham ".

He was getting in strife for late and off-ball incidents last year too, not his best start.

It was a soft hit but then again so was the rest of his game.

too much weights not enough speed work.

honestly, how unfit is this guy - cardio wise.
sure, he is super strong and everything but he just doesn't keep up.

poor signing imo, over-rated as.
sure he hits hard but he just doesn't have the gas for it.

impact benchie at best.

Did anyone hear Fatty go on about him pre-match?
He finished by saying something like "I can't believe the Tigers let him go".

Well for his price tag I think we've done quite well. Jesse Sue will do the job for us in No.13

Fatty has as much cred as Slothfield, BECK and the Telecrap.

Yeah Fatty was particularly grating last night. On Marty…

He's always a guy who is going to need some match fitness.
Impact player is always going to be his go. He's not a toiler. Maybe he'll end up doing the old Kerry Hemsley role for 25 minutes and then go off.
The "hit" was soft but very very late and all shoulder at impact. Given his record he may get rubbed out with things the way they are these days.
Manly looked poor but no doubt will improve as the season goes on.

I know it has been standard for about 30 years but I hate how 3 defenders will take on one guy thus denying us of his brilliance. Make it one on one or one on two at the most. Don't let defence dominate and ruin the running attacking game, that is they need to kick on the 5th tackle that also ruins a well planned running game. Marty would be a champ one on one.

Agree on all accounts. Will never be an effective big minutes player. I'm in better cardio health than Marty I reckon, and that's far from a gleaming endorsement.

They might play MOLTZEN :astonished:

Gee Tim must be happy with his decision. Third string fullback.

Not even playing in the halves in State Cup.

Round one early days to be bagging anyone, very easy to end up with egg on your face. Granted he had a poor game but he had a lot of mates in that department. Do not get me wrong I hope he is a big flop at Manly, but I have the same thoughts for any player who leaves us for another club mid career.

Pretty much why I think he was let go…

Are we contributing anything to his 2016 contract?

I can't see why we would. He wanted out and we simply agreed to release. It would have been very bad business if he agreed to fund part of his new contract in the circumstances.

We kept paying Benji didn't we? That it is very bad business sadly isn't enough to stop WT doing it.

If we did, I suspect it was due to promises we had made to backend his contract. Also when he left Marshall was prohibited from playing for another NRL club. When he joined the Dragons, we got some money out of it as I understand.

Marty seemed to be missing that impact last night, he seemed out of puff.
Yeah only 1st game and will become more match fit as the Season progresses but i think his best impact is when he comes of the bench. Silly things crept into his game last night IMO.

I initially thought it was dumb to allow him to go but think the money he wanted? Not worth it and THINK JT may have made the right call on this one…...always tough at 1st getting your head around it.
