Matt Groat signs with Dragons

the Dragons have additionally announced that forward Matt Groat has agreed to a one-year contract that will see him join the Club until at least the end of 2014.

The two-time Australia Schoolboy prop (2010-11) is presently contracted to Wests Tigers and has played 17 first-grade NRL games to date.

The St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown junior is originally from the Riverina area has previously been named in the Young Kangaroos (2011) and NSW Blues U20 State of Origin team (2012).

"Matt is a great guy who will fit in really well at the Dragons," said Dragons prop Jack Stockwell.

"We were at school together at St Greg's and were lucky enough to play some representative football together in recent years so I'm really looking forward to playing with him again next year.

"He has had some back luck with injuries but I know that he is definitely keen to work hard and is looking forward to joining us in the pre-season."

Groat will join the Dragons in November

Be interesting to see if we rue this decision. He has size to be devastating. Guess we will see….

I wish him luck. Can't keep them all but I think he is better than tapau or Buchanan IMO.

Hope I'm wrong though.

I have a sickening feeling that we will shed tears over this one… Built like a Bullock just needed someone to be able to tap into his head...

Best of luck to him though, hope he can find it in himself to make us hurt for letting him go. Kids deserve a chance, and if he isnt going to get it here, hell he was for some reason behind Spence, then he obviously needed to send the feelers out there. He is the poster child for someone sent into the deep before he was properly equipped, just have to hope someone can help him turn it all around.

Was rattled after his brush with Te'o, but I certainly thought he was worth persisting with.

Wish him well… Blooded to early, but I hope he finds the next gear to get a spot in there 17.

Hope he goes good at the dragons they need all the good players they can get but only time will tell if he is going to be good, some how u don't think he will be a great player but maybe a good solid player

All the best him. I would have liked to have kept Groat for depth, plus like others, I think he'll come good eventually. He's still only 21 isn't he?
 
Hmm a little annoyed that signing Groat was one of the reasons we let Fifita go and now he is gone with no fanfare and Fifita is the best prop in the country. I don't think Groat has the heart to play rough and tumble with the big boys. I hope I'm wrong and he comes good though. Good luck.
 
Ironically the Dragons were the team that pretty much ended his 1st grade career with the Tigers.

They have a habit of nuffying our signings anyway - David Gower was once rated the NEXT BIG THING, and he's been barely sighted.
