Maybe its time to go to Perth

A move to Perth would be like moving to another country! As wd (who lives there) said, no one there is remotely interested n Rugby League. Darwin, on the other hand, I reckon would be very interested, but probably a tad hot all year round lol.

I think the Central Coast is the go - its a great Rugby League nursery that is screaming out for an NRL club to follow and it's a lot faster to get to from Sydney than it once was. The Northern Eagles never worked here because politics doomed them from the start, but I reckon either WT or Souths would kill it on the coast, as they are easily the 2 most supported teams here. I recall not so long ago, our highest home game attendance for the entire season was at Bluetongue Stadium!

Besides all that we need a stronger Rugby League presence on the coast to challenge the Central Coast Mariners, who successfully capitalised on the NRL's inability to act quickly and bring the game up here.

Of course, I have a vested interest in all this, living less than half an hour's drive from Bluetongue

Gonna have to disagree with you both there Flip, WA is the third largest league market in the country, and will only continue to grow with more attention from the NRL. Re-location isn't the answer, but we're definitely a viable option.

You are absolutely dreaming. 3rd largest maybe. But that doesn't make it viable. The wildcats have won a squillion titles but don't get crowds when they're off, the Glory struggles big time. I won't count the Force because there's many here that say "I don't mind Union but cant stand league" (and they wont listen to reason). Those die hard fans of the Force are often South African, English and Kiwis with a sprinkling of the areas elite. And then there's the battle between the Dockers and Eagles fans. They alternate weeks at home so you can't even play here on a free weekend. Forget comparing to the odd game played here each year. that's a novelty match and the crowd is pretty much all kiwis. They won't attend every weekend. But most importantly, you just don't get the fact that the media will not under any circumstances allow league to get any traction here - not even channel 9\. The kingpins of the station are all AFL crazy. It's sad really. ABC radio won't even plug the code. So stop dreaming. It's a ridiculous idea that is bound for complete failure.

What chance are we even given with 1 or 2 games a year and borderline criminal coverage on the TV? The game over here is built on ex-pats, sure, but that doesn't mean we'd be any worse off than some clubs in an over-crowded Sydney market. If it wants to call itself a national competition than the NRL needs to take a vested interest in the growth of the game in Perth.
Anyway I'm sure there's a more accurate medium between my optimism and your devout cynicism on the matter.

I've said enough. I'll just roll my eyes. If and when their is a team, I'll be a member and support them, but it'll be short term enjoyment. After a few years they'll be gone.

Gyngell has stated several times at functions he would support a Perth based team with an eye to live Sat. broadcasts on 9 i just hope its not us.Central Coast is meandering into a turf war between the Roosters & Norths so probaly best not to get involved there as we have enough problems.
We have our area,Greater Western Sydney, we have the backing at the moment of the NRL,its only a question of whether Balmain is squeezed out in the future.

:wtf I have been a Balmain boy all my life and when we merged with Western Suburbs I was wrapped because I had a great team to support,I respected the Maggies when I followed the Tigers, so I was happy with the joint venture .If they relocate to Perth and the Tiger or Magpie get removed from the playing kit, then I will not follow NRL again it is important they stay on because of what both sides offered to rugby league as two separate clubs, heritage and history to say the least is quite important in my opinion 😛ray:

If the NRL scrapped most suburban grounds as that's been mentioned and games were played mostly at SFS and ANZ, I'm all for relocating to WA. I'd still be attending the Sydney games, still get the same TV coverage, membership package will most probably start to include ANZ away game deals for us knowing they already have a existing supporter base here, we'll become financial sound, have a larger fan base and ultimately become a force like all the other one city teams, and not forgetting or compromising our name WESTS goes with the move and the TIGERS brand is the envy of all sports around the world.

Not wanting to start no arguments, but understanding the supporters that attend our home games are against any re location, what's the big deal with the rest, how will it affect you.

Perth is a great area screaming out for a league team but I hope we dont have to go down that path. We've been watered down enough already.

Should have taken the 11million back when they wanted us to re locate to somersby years ago. And a new stadium to go with it.

Somersby!?

Yup. Before the merger they offered the tigers the chance to re locate and offered them fresh start and 2 years cap free. Declined it.

Wests should have taken the chance to. Was offered to both.

Manly a few years later took it but also merged with norths. They had a similar deal

Funny how in the off season when media darlings Balmain went belly up I remarked Perth may be a reality with independent directors and many here laughed.

Thanks Balmain.

They keep their bad form and bad management we won't have to worry about a team to follow .and if they go to Perth they won't be my team anymore.how do you support a team that you can't go and support ?
