Mayer on 2SM

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians IMO
"Grant mayer" … It's been 15 years in the making ... WTF !

woww ! this interview has really cleared up some grey areas and misconceptions hanging around the last week or two. It really is a shame that its taken this long to come to the forefront. I highly recommend anyone who is confused with this whole saga to listen to the interview

From Mayer himself:

- all the players have expressed a desire to be left out of the coaching appointment - RF has never spoken to Mayer about Mick Potter as a coach
- brian smith's review was implemented only to develop junior pathways, nothing to do with the coach
- no decision has been made on potter's future amongst other employees off contract because they're waiting for the new board (VERY GOOD SIGN !)
- board should be in place in the next 3 weeks
- players job is to play football - "forget about everything else and play footy"
- "the coach, the captain and the players have said leave it to the board and lets play football"
- previously the board has been fractured - the last 12 months the board has been working together
- tigers had to make the 8 last year for potter to get an extension, the clause doesn't exist this year. He is now "judged on his performance on the development of the squad and that is made by the board"
- Robbie is going to be here for the next three years
- the club is run by the wests tigers not the NRL - has been performing better than recent years (balance sheets and on the field)
- To all the wests tigers fans: Stay solid and lets focus on football and let the board make the decisions (the incoming board)
- Can guarantee the fans that the one focus between the players, coach and administration is to make the semi finals.

I have been a strong critic of Mayer during this whole debacle, however i think he has handled himself well during this interview and shed some light on the whole issue. This is something which was needed on Monday, not five days in.

Actually Tony it should of come out the Monday after the Bulldogs game

And it also comes down to whether you believe all that Mayer says

Cleared up a few misconceptions. Firstly, the Brian Smith report was about due diligence for the incoming independent board members and not about who should be the head coach. Secondly, that there is no new contract trigger for Potter if the side makes the eight and finally that the outgoing board has realised that they have no business making decisions before the new board is in place.

Spin.. Spin… Spin ...the question still remains leaving that piece of the interview out was going to hang Farah out to dry and certain types new it. I have no respect for Mayer in any circumstances the damage has been done.
I want him gone end of story far to little to late!!!!!!

I wouldn't believe everything a CEO says but it has definitely cleared up some of the misconceptions i personally had about the saga. I wasn't in Sydney during the week of the Bulldogs game so I'm not to sure if that interview was necessary at the time. But considering the tumultuous week that we've endured it would've been awesome to have heard this interview a lot earlier then Friday.

well that's something, definitely should have come out right away and not a few days later.

I'll take it as a positive anyway, let's move forward.

It's still hard to fathom how we went from ontop of the world after the Bulldogs win to the bottom of the deep ocean 1 week later…The Administration(CEO+BOARD) are fully responsible for this demise...

All a little to late…Mr Mayer has certainly been 'doing the rounds' in the past 2 days...all reactive rather than PRO-ACTIVE..

It should have been all sorted by late on Sunday afternoon, but by the captain, not the CEO. Though Mayer should have been more vocal on Wednesday when Farah was a no-show.

Potter and Farah spoke before the match and we don't need to be Einstein to know at least part of what was discussed. The two then knew, or certainly should have known if honesty attended, exactly where they stood with each other.

The matter should have been put to bed at the press conference. Questions were asked, and they needed to be answered, without political speak style BS, then and there. Things then festered for a couple of days, including another meeting of the pair at their residence, before things went even more pear-shaped when training resumed.

Whilst I hope that Farah is not in too bad a mental state, as he is more than just an average footballer off he paddock, much better was expected from him this week.

Mayer is not blameless, but he has to operate in an environment that lies between a rock and a hard place.

Thanks for the summary Tony.

Agree. Should have been on the front foot from the get-go, transparency from the outset would have been a huge damage limiter.

its great that he addressed many, if not all of the concerns involved. personally i was pleased with his definition of smith's role as i was wary of him too.
thanks very much for the summary and the link guys - its a positive in a week of innuendo and pettiness and hopefully we wont be hearing anything more about this - for the rest of the season at least.

With all the support Potter is getting his job should be 100% safe

I bet his job isn't safe though

I believe Potter along with Payten will both be looking for new jobs .

If you listened to the interview, you find out why. Mayer states that as part of the JV's constitution the board gets to the select the Head Coach and the CEO. Mayer can't be seen to go too hard against the board's interests otherwise he gets punted, like Longmuir and Humphreys before him.
