Mayer on 2SM

All a little to late…Mr Mayer has certainly been 'doing the rounds' in the past 2 days...all reactive rather than PRO-ACTIVE..

He has been pro active by NOT being reactive to every little media report coming out.The Brian Smith report sounds like in time it will work wonders for this organisation despite a lot of the fallacies that have been reported in the media.Mayer is trying his best to make us another Manly where we deal with our crap internally and not thru the media.Have patience Wests Tigers fans the worst is behind us Mayer has and continues doing a great job in ridding this club of the cancers that has held it back for much of its 15 year existance.

Great interview no beating round the bush.

I agree with the others that this on Sunday on Monday what have killed the issue off.
Must say remember before game on Sunday he tweets that he can't believe what was said in the media so hours before board meeting he didn't expect what was said in paper.

So maybe all this was a plot to cost us game on Sunday and like I said elsewhere to make board look bad to help usher independent members in.
I mean things like what qualified Bailey to select ciach sound ridiculous when they are to appoint member who no nothing about game.

I bloody hope so ! Shame it's taken this long to sort this crap out .

Every media article has been negative innuendo after that F- wit from the DT said Potter will be sacked after sundays game.
Mayer's interview is a little late".. but A step in the right direction. Nine news just showed some positive footage of Robbie laughing back at training.
Hopefully the worm has turned. And some new positive articles come out.

Mayer is being diplomatic. The future structure will hopefully steer us onto a glorious future.
Change will happen whether we like it or not, and the media will speculate on it and cause friction.

Well done to Meyer for responding to all the rumours that have been circulating lately…. It's time for media personalities to be held accountable for reporting rubbish... Indirectly they have the influence to alter the way a team performs, let alone the impact they have on individuals who they speculate about. Dean Richie, Gordon Tallis, Matt Johns are all a disgrace... It would be refreshing to see some journalism with integrity for a change.

If it was that easy, why is it being addressed today and not Saturday, Sunday or Monday?

I wasn't convinced by Mayer's response to the questions about the Roy Masters article. I had the impression that the question caught him unprepared. My thoughts are, if he didn't know about it, he should have.
After that it was good. Like the prepared messages we used to practice in media training.

I simply don't believe that he wasn't aware of the article and had to have his memory refreshed. I believe he would have had that article etched in his memory.
After that the rest was good. Just like the prepared messages we used to practice in media training.

Maybe when he Googled himself it never came up.
I do believe Mr Mayer did cut back and was only able to allocate 7 hours of his day to the internet and social media this week.
He didn't even have enough time to edit a video.

If the only concern is to focus on playing football, why was nothing done to prevent the 100% loss of focus in this regard for Sunday's season defining game?

It's all well and good to say the right things almost a week after the crap hit the fan and I must admit, I was impressed by Mayer up until that point. But to let the media shake the club for a period of time before this has been made clear by the CEO is disappointing to say the least. As the CEO he should've gone into damage control and cleaned up the mess with the right information straight away, instead of letting fans, coaches, players and media all dibble dabble with rumours and here-say and trying to come up with stories that may fit their agenda and sell papers, meanwhile hammering the club and players. The second trouble started he should've been on top of it instead of it spiraling out of control! Just stamp out the BS with the media, clear it up (ensure your press conferences containing Robbie showing his support would've been a good start) and move on.

Yes, Mayer's is a week's late. He should have nip it in the bud, when it surfaced. The players and coach should now concentrate on football. With some more success, we may see Potter here next year. Please give the man a chance.

We as fans just need patience. We have the right players in place and very shortly we will have the end to the diabolical wests/balmain board structure and we can finally have a nice new(and effective)board structure in place(with 3 independents holding voting power). We are currently in transition whilst we wait for the new board to be put in place and the truth is as anxious we as fans are to have it in place we need to wait and make sure the right 3 board members are selected. We need to get it right.Hopefully Potter remains coach due to results/abilities AND THIS TIME NEXT YEAR ALL THESE MEDIA OUTLETS THAT ARE LINING UP TO CRAP ON US WILL ALL BE EATING HUMBLE PIE.REMEMBER THE BEST FORM OF REVENGE IS SUCCESS. :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign: :sign:

He was better off saying, circumstances have changed, leave the rumours outside, we are now going with public opinion. I would have believed him for once.

woww ! this interview has really cleared up some grey areas and misconceptions hanging around the last week or two. It really is a shame that its taken this long to come to the forefront. I highly recommend anyone who is confused with this whole saga to listen to the interview

From Mayer himself:

- all the players have expressed a desire to be left out of the coaching appointment - RF has never spoken to Mayer about Mick Potter as a coach
- brian smith's review was implemented only to develop junior pathways, nothing to do with the coach
- no decision has been made on potter's future amongst other employees off contract because they're waiting for the new board (VERY GOOD SIGN !)
- board should be in place in the next 3 weeks
- players job is to play football - "forget about everything else and play footy"
- "the coach, the captain and the players have said leave it to the board and lets play football"
- previously the board has been fractured - the last 12 months the board has been working together
- tigers had to make the 8 last year for potter to get an extension, the clause doesn't exist this year. He is now "judged on his performance on the development of the squad and that is made by the board"
- Robbie is going to be here for the next three years
- the club is run by the wests tigers not the NRL - has been performing better than recent years (balance sheets and on the field)
- To all the wests tigers fans: Stay solid and lets focus on football and let the board make the decisions (the incoming board)
- Can guarantee the fans that the one focus between the players, coach and administration is to make the semi finals.

I have been a strong critic of Mayer during this whole debacle, however i think he has handled himself well during this interview and shed some light on the whole issue. This is something which was needed on Monday, not five days in.

Hasn't some of this been mentioned before though?
- all the players have expressed a desire to be left out of the coaching appointment - RF has never spoken to Mayer about Mick Potter as a coach - Didn't Farah's manager Sam Ayoub raise this when the whole saga with Farah first erupted?
- brian smith's review was implemented only to develop junior pathways, nothing to do with the coach - Mayer has repeated this ad-nauseum on Twitter and to the media.
- players job is to play football - "forget about everything else and play footy" - Also mentioned by Ayoub last week.
- "the coach, the captain and the players have said leave it to the board and lets play football" - Potter and Farah (and Ayoub on behalf of Farah) have said things along these lines already.

We have to take his word on the comments about the Board, but I doubt they are accurate. This club has never had a united board, nor one whose primary focus was the Wests Tigers.

I think it was a waste of an interview and much like Farah's constant reiteration that there's no issue between the players and the coach, the comments will be ignored by the media who will continue to pursue their 'Club in Crisis' angle.

I just don't see the point in talking to the mainstream Rugby League media in this country.

Sunny day everything's a-okay??
Why does it take a week to get a story straight enough to go public with?
To me, the more that comes out 'officially' the more questions I have, because it is what's not being said that is significant.
The media reports that came out on Sunday last week said that Potter would be sacked that night. (Of course this report resulted in the cyclone of sh!t that engulfed the team and almost certainly influenced their performance against the dragons.) I haven't heard or seen any communication from the club directly denying that allegation or explaining where it came from. For some reason the board conducted a hasty meeting that afternoon to discuss the matter and followed up with a nothing statement that Potter is safe till seasons end. If there was nothing to the allegation, why did they have to meet about it? Why didn't they deny it directly within minutes?
There was also the (paraphrased) allegation about privately the board not wanting Potter to make the finals so that they wouldn't be embarrassed. If ever there was a media statement that required a rebuttal that was it. Where did that come from? The journalist must have had a source. What did the club say? Schtumm.
Then there was the Roy Masters piece alleging that the players approached an influential person outside the board with a message. What did the club say?
From my experience; the CEO at my workplace has an executive secretary. Every morning, first thing, the exec sec and an administrative assistant go through the papers looking for articles that might impact on the business. They cut them out and put them in a folder for the CEO to read.
Is it possible that 'the club', for want of a better term, has not directly rebutted these things because they don't want to see the public comeback response from the original journalists? They certainly didn't like the response from Gorden Tallis.
An investigator will tell you that if you ask a suspect a direct question and they look you in the eye and say directly 'I didn't do it', there's a fair chance they didn't. If you ask the same direct question to someone else and they say 'I wasn't even there', they've deflected the question and it's time to ask more questions.
