Wow, some harsh words for our only current origin player.

He's a bit of a whipping boy on here. He had an underwhelming 2019 on the back of an injury in the preseason. He was just about our best player after he arrived in 2018. I'm actually glad he's here, I think he's a great player and I think he'll add quite a lot to the team moving forward.

On the back of his standout performances in 2018 (as well as how he conducts himself off the field) most people on here welcomed it when he was first announced as captain.

In 2019 he had a rough start but played well towards the end of the season. I think he could be in for a strong 2020.

@Jimmy - I think we should only assume with who we have contracted at this stage. Mitchell should not be Inc in calculations, as too Brittain, until announced officially. I'd throw Walters into 9 since he will have had full pre-season training with squad. WT can easily cover five eigth, hooker and halfback less so. I don't think emergency measures done in the last few games of 2019 season should be used as the main operating method for 2020 season.

I think Liddle, if the story heard of his injury being worse than anticipated, may be forced to give it up. Long term health is more value than short term league life. Don't want to spend the rest of your life crippled with a sh## knee.

I think his preseason injury is largely overlooked for last year, PCL I believe it was.

If you recall he played the trial against the Cowboys and injured it again which put him behind for the season.

I know he had a below par season for his standards but I’m with you Avo I think he has huge upside in our team and hopefully with an uninterrupted preseason we will see him at his best in 2020!!

Mbye was starting look very good before he was injured , that game v NQC he was awesome .....particularly his up and in defence

@Papacito - agree. Leave Mbye in centres partnering Talau with Momorovski and Nofo on wings and Thompson at fullback* (unless we sign Mitchell, if so Thompson to reserves covering injuries to wingers / fullback).

Too much, I still can't believe he's our captain.
Great bloke, average player, not captain material and getting paid overs.

x100000

game breaker? no
does anything outstanding? no
intangibles? no
commentator of NRL on Fox? not bad, yeah...

kicks goals alright

but then again our whole squad isn't anything to be too excited about to be honest. A squad full of solid players (not outstanding).

I don't dislike him, but I wish he'd settle on a position. We have no idea where he'll be playing in 2020. And he's the captain!

@GNR4LIFE we don’t really need to know as long as Madge has a solid plan for him witch I can almost guarantee he does

Only the fake Captain. Benji is the real Captain on the field.

@mike - I'd make Benji real captain with the c by his name for 2020. Gives us a season to sort out leadership and positions. If Mbye cant cement a fulltime position, he should not be captain.

I’d make it official as well. Benji for sure as our Captain (C) in 2020.

I think almost everyone would be happy with him in our squad if he was on $450k instead of almost double that.

$700 plus to be playing in the centres is way over the top.

Value for money, Momo and Talau would be my centres.

I agree with your first point but Talau has shown basically nothing in first grade. He is being hyped up but that is miles off becoming a quality NRL player. Mbye is a quality NRL player. I'd have Momo as a decent player but again miles off becoming a quality NRL player.

The problem with Mbye is the assumed contract dollars. He is probably worth a little more than a quality NRL centre because he is a versatile player. If he is on $1mill he is overpaid but if he is on $450k he is really good value.

Thats the problem with Mbye, I was excited when he signed on cause I thought our fullback problems were solved and at the price he was signed for no dramas. As it turns out he was not quite the fullback I thought he was going to be. I think he is a good centre but not at his price.

Given we have him on our roster you play him in the centres and place young prospect Talau outside him on the wing until the youngsters gains confidence.

I would have liked to have seen Talau on the wing back end of last season instead of Jennings. Kids got potential and imo you have to roll the dice with potential.
