When did his contract end? They've already taken him off the squad details on the website.

Hopefully some more to come

Can we just use his salary + the 100K we're meant to lose from moving to Leichhardt for the final round to re-sign Benj for one more year?

Seems odd considering he was off contract and wasn’t going to be resigned. Wonder what’s been happening in the background

At the end of the season, so we've saved 30-50k?

That's very strange

It was never going to end well buying a 30 year old forward. Thanks for at least trying Chris but JT was a fool bringing you here at your age

Lets not lets use the money to help buy a player who will take our club forward .

Could be have been the one leaking info?
Didn’t seem the type of guy to dog the glub tho...so I’d say it’s purely for him to get ready for a big lifestyle change

It frees up a roster spot which has been reported as an issue in signing other players, not much $$ savings but helps none the less.

Contract up at the end of the year anyway? Only 4 games left. Hardly worth an announcement..

He is worthy of some respect though. Good to announce it, shame he didnt take the opportunity last season.

Why? Says he is taking up a deal with a Super League club. He wasn't going to be getting another deal in the NRL.

It's not Rocket Surgery..McQueen is on his way to SL now to get settled in..wouldn't have been able to without securing a release..

A season or 2 too late for us..was obvious his NRL days were up..

Best of luck in the future..

Yep to ESL, he has English / Scottish parentage, can claim citizenship and has played for Scotland in the world cup. A totally normal place to progress to for him in the ESL with the added benefit for the ESL club it doesnt count as an import due to his parentage.

Just strange timing.
We only have 4 rounds to go.
but Super League plays until 12 November.
So depending how quickly he can get over plus quarantine, he may get 4 or 5 games in over there

What a terrible ROI McQueen was, $450k a year for 10 first grade games across 3 seasons. Not his fault, he rode the WT gravy train. Hopefully we learn from these signings

He wouldn’t have been a bad pick up had he not broken his neck after we signed him

Hate to say it champ, but Benji is gone, loved him 2003 - 2011. But today's Benji doesn't stack up to today's game, a fact he should becoming aware of with his below average performances and the lack of interest he is getting to play on. I applaud the club for making this hard call.
Benji's and McQueens money (750K) could secure a quality player or two young blokes that could bring our club forward (not another Mbye, Packer, Reynolds, Taylor, Jennings, etc) but actually move forward finally.
This is hard to say but no more charity, the club is bigger than the player and needs a future which Benji is not part of it.
