If what the Channel 9 and McKinnon claims is incorrect I hope when Qld win SOO on Wednesday he refuses to speak to any Channel 9 media and the whole Qld side ignores any questions put to it by Channel 9

I'm not a fan of Smith at all. I don't rate him, and can't stand his cheap shot plays - however he's being unfairly victimized here.
Having said that - I don't see Alex as a perfect human being either - Brave yes. But not of perfect character.

Not a fan of Smith, but that was gutter journalism from Nein. Now watch the hypocrisy if Qld win SOO. No 60 Minutes style post match ambush on Wednesday, just back slapping stuff from Lockyer & Co proclaiming Smith hero of the universe again.
even his teammates said they had no idea what had happened, they thought it was precautionary as it almost always is.
cam smith could honestly sue for defamation. but looks like he might just take his story to 7.
the way 9 has slandered him and by extension the game probably means they dont really expect to keep NRL tv rights which is great i reckon. seen numerous anti-league stories on there before, about how no one ever gets injured in soccer and rugby league is full of thugs. probably should have a look at all those absolutely mangled legs, ankles and feet from non professional soccer games..

Said it many times, the tackle was illegal and and resulted in a broken neck. Mckinnon ducking his head is a reflex self preservation action in the heat of the moment and only did it because he was being lifted. If he wasnt lifted he doesn't duck his head.
McLean should be barred for life. If u punch someone and kill them your gone, but if punch someone and just cause a bloody nose u get a slap in the wrist. Same thing, both illegal but one had more serious consequences therefore the punishment is more severe.

Focusing on the facts for a moment. Alex McKinnon very nearly died in that tackle, and without serious medical intervention would have done. If someone is laid out, paralised from the neck down and struggling to breathe, then without quick emergency response, it's game over. Had McKinnon sustained the same damage without a medical team in standby, he might well have died right there where he lay.
So with this in mind I couldn't care less about Cameron Smith's intentions, or what someone else might have done in the same situation. If he wasn't in a position to help he should have shut up and got out of the way. I also don't expect Alex McKinnon to be at all sympathetic or understanding. You break a man's neck he's not your friend. It doesn't have to be reasonable, he'd be pretty sick of being reasonable.
If it's apparently ok for Cameron Smith to still be in the ref's face whingeing as a man is carried out paralysed and near death, because that's what any captain would do for his team, then I think it's ok for that man to be unimpressed when viewing the replay. More than unimpressed.

How relevant would you feel if you couldn't move around, couldn't feed yourself, couldn't go to the bathroom unassisted, could barely even use a phone or write anything down. You'd be feeling like a pretty irrelevant shell where a man used to be. You wouldn't even have the release of being able to punch or kick anything, you'd just be trapped in your own smashed body, day by day learning to wiggle a finger or two.
After seeing this horrific incident on our TV screens we all got on the Rise for Alex bandwagon, as his gracious struggle somehow uplifted and inspired us or at least made us grateful for the use of our limbs. At least were were to draw some positive vibe from the Wiggles singing a song about quadriplegia. Alex McKinnon has gone and messed that up by having the nerve to be angry about having his neck broken, and the subsequent behaviour of Cameron Smith. And that's ok, if anyone's earned a good public dummy spit, it's Alex McKinnon.
So with this in mind I couldn't care less about Cameron Smith's intentions, or what someone else might have done in the same situation. I was filthy with Smith at the time I watched it live and was yelling at the TV at the time.
Im sure I wrote my thoughts on this at the time. I think that Smith behaved terribly that night and showed terrible misjudgement and a complete lack of sensitivity. It was obvious at the time that the kid was in serious trouble. A decent person's thought should have been with the welfare of the bloke yelling on the ground that he cant move his legs and to a lesser degree his own player who would have been feeling terrible.
Im not suggesting that Smith is a terrible person, Im saying he behaved badly, we all make mistakes, and get the situation wrong, I have many times, and IMO Smith did in this instance.
Paul Kent wrote a terrific article in the paper, people wanted to see how he is coping, he understandably he is not going perfectly and has some natural resentment, now people want to have a go at McKinnon.
I think the way Smith has reacted has compounded his initial error. IMO he should have come out and said that in the heat of the moment he made an error in judgement and had no intention to down play the seriousness of the situation, and feels terrible that his actions at the time caused Alex some discomfort and apologises unreservedly. Had he have done that he would have come out looking terrific.
I have actually lost respect for Smiths reaction to the story, as opposed to the incident itself. I was worked up at the time of the incident and went on a few pub rants about how annoyed I was at the time, but have moved on and my common sense has prevailed in realising in the heat of the moment we make errors in judgement, in this instance though he has time to gather his thoughts and behave rationally, IMO he has instead reacted with petulance.
The way he has responded implies to me that he thinks he did nothing wrong, and that McKinnon is wrong to be upset with him.
60 mins is copping flak, I reckon that showing McKinnons thoughts warts and all made the whole story more real, everyone wanted the feel good battling adversity and winning story, but real life isnt so straight forward, and 60 mins did a good job in showing this IMO.
