Membership dept is Crap!

Don't think having players on the other end of phone ends up boosting numbers.. WT need to recruit more new members not hassle existing.

MEMBERS EXCLUSIVE: Braith Anasta Talks Wests Tigers

Braith Anasta, one of the most respected and experienced players in the NRL, has given his first interview on weststigers.com.au about his decision to join Wests Tigers.
Anasta spoke to club media manager Wayne Cousins about working with new NRL Coach Mick Potter to the speculation around the position he will play in 2013.

Wests Tigers: Tell us about your decision to come to Wests Tigers and the opportunity it presented?
Braith: It is a great opportunity for me. I think I desperately needed it. It is a new start, a new beginning. It has given me a new lease of life actually. I can test myself a lot more now and I’ve got to prove myself. That’s good for me. I have a lot of aspirations the way I want to play and what I want to do for the team.

Wests Tigers: Your thoughts on new NRL Coach Mick Potter?
Braith: He has been really stern which has been good. He has given no excuses to any player. Everyone has got to earn their spot and everyone has a great attitude towards that. The players have responded well to Mick which is a good sign early on. The training has been hard. It has been physical work and it is going to get harder. He has set the example early on and I look forward to working with him.

Wests Tigers: What excites you about the squad assembled?
Braith: Working with Robbie (Farah) and Benji (Marshall) excites me a lot. I like to play off the cuff. That’s when I’m playing at my best. I play what I see. They are the best two at that in the comp so it suits my game. There is also plenty of good young talent coming through after the club won the U20s premiership.

Wests Tigers: Which position do you feel most comfortable in?
Braith: People have spoken about the halves and there has been a bit of conjecture about it. I don’t care where I play. I never have. I’ve played five-eighth for most of my career but I’m at a different stage of my career now. I just want to play footy and do what’s best for the team. That’s what I have always been about. Whether Mick wants to play me in the halves or the back row, I don’t care. I really don’t. Whatever job he gives me that is in the best interest of the team I will do my best at that. We (Roosters) made the grand final in 2010 and I was in the back-row and I loved it. I’m playing off guys like Robbie and Benji who will add a bit to my game as well. The only reason there was some conjecture because Tim Sheens was talking about me playing 7\. I’m not a 7\. He had a role for me in 7\. It wasn’t the average 7.

Wests Tigers: You are an astute goal-kicker. Would you like to take on the role here?
Braith: I have to speak to Mick to see whether he sees me as a goal-kicker for this club. I always kicked until I met Hazem El Masri at the Bulldogs and then Craig Fitzgibbon at the Roosters. I’ve loved the opportunity that I have had and if it was given to me here at Wests Tigers, I’d take it with two hands. If I’m not kicking, that’s fine. I can focus on my football and playing to the best of my ability.

Wests Tigers: Is there any chance you can kick a miracle 40 metre field goal for your new team like you did against Wests Tigers in the 2010 finals series?
Braith: (laughing)..I’d love too because I owe the fans that. I meet a lot of Wests Tigers supporters on the streets and the first thing they say to me is that field goal. It is hard for me because it was one of the best experiences of my life. On the other hand, it is probably one of the worst for the Wests Tigers supporters. Hopefully I can repay the Wests Tigers supporters and kick a field goal for us in the grand final which would be even better.

Watch the full interview with Braith from 6.30pm tonight at http://www.weststigers.com.au

Is that correct???….we only have 2500 Members for next season?

Holy shiiiite, that would have to be the lowest out of any club in the comp wouldn't it?

Sounds like WT management have paid the price for stuffing around for so long with the Sheens saga and keeping the Members and WT supporters in general in the dark over the whole schemozzle.

I don't think it is that big a deal in the middle of November to have a low count. Apparently it is up around 3,500 now, and there is plenty of time for the numbers to go higher.

I just got back from overseas yesterday to find I had a couple voicemail messages from Benji. Spewing that I didn't get to chat…

Nah left a message mate.

Ok thanks mate,
I took the old man and the family to Farah's restaurant for Father's Day a few years back and he was there at the restaurant. So my mum knowing how passionate I am about the side went up to him and asked him to come over and get some photos of me, my daughter and him. It was a bit surreal trying to have a chat and not come across as a star struck fan.

Its pretty corny for the club to instruct players to call members under the guise of being your best mate (in actual fact doing a job for the club), sucking up to you about memberships knowing that the majority of members will get starstruck.

Does any other club do this?

I received a call from the membership department yesterday regarding my seating next year. They managed to seat me next to my friends. I have downgraded to the ultimate silver membership.

The membership team have been great to desk with. Being on season 2013.

Got a 6PM call from the Indian call centre the other night.
Anyway, I was strangely up for a chat and Sanjay quickly let me know that like most Indian males, he was a total sports nut. I really liked his telephony skills and thinking on my feet inquired as to whether he also had the ability to steer an NRL team around the park. Sanjay was a most humble man and admitted quite frankly that his left foot kicking game could do with some work, but that he counted numbers like Sterlo and his speed off the mark was second to none.

I took his details, but despite not being accredited, I will expect a small percentage of any financial agreement he and Humpty may sign off on… I mean C'mon, he did phone me during dinner time !

I don't think its corny - I think its a great idea! I'd imagine the success rate in getting wavering people to renew would be pretty high with a player. Saying no to some Neville (or the female equivalent) from membership is one thing but if Rowdy or Banjo are on the phone its a bit harder!!

Anyway I think it sends a good message as well that the players and the members are part of the same club. We don't want any Melissa George types who think that speaking to actual supporters/members is beneath them.

I got no call….never do....but I checked the website and theyve allocated seats to one of the memberships Ive purchased

Where exactly is row EE......down near the field or up the back or...??

I'm sure Melissa George will oblige once the Summer Bay Starfish gain entry into the NRL Yoss

My wife still watches that show - the one thing you pick up is that Summer Bay is as big or small as the show needs it to be so don't discount that Starfish bid yet!

Thats a very warm and fuzzy way of looking at it, but the reality is the club's only concern is making money, not building a culture of fans and players being one of the same.

Well those two things aren't necessarily opposed to each other. An environment where the fans feel a greater connection to the club can potentially be a money maker for the club.

How did you check this? I can't even find the old members only area on the website anymore.

Don't worry, managed to find it. I am showing as having no current membership, yet we signed up as a group over a month ago. Hopefully we are still going to get decent seats.
