MEMO to L.Daley

I think Daley needs to sit down with Bellamy, McCarthy and Fulton and disect the last 2 years only. In 06/07, they were going through a re-building phase and shouldnt look too hard at analysing what went wrong then. There is no reason with the quality of footballers at thier disposal, NSW should be more competitive by now.

When they named the team for game 1, I was convinced they thought too hard about game 3 last year, and didnt review what went wrong in game 1 and 2\. Game 3 was a dead rubber and Qld simply didnt play to thier best. At every level of the game in the past 3 years, nobody has been able to stop Greg Inglis, Jonathon Thurston & Billy Slater. Some have got lucky in some games, but over-all, they are too dominant and have this ability to carve up oppositions defences. At no stage have NSW tried to combat Qld with a 'simple' game plan. Its always been bigger and better, rather than simple and basic football. The brain trust at NSW are the reason Qld are getting better.

I thought they were more competitive last year, as they went with a game plan to out-score Qld. In game 1 and 2 this year, there objective was to STOP them. It doesnt work. Again, Inglis, Thurston and Slater are too clever and will find ways to get around them. Added to their problem now is they have played Sam Thaiday and a modern day champion, Darren Lockyer into top notch form. The 2 biggest sleeping giants. What they are doing is allowing Qld to be better, and they keep getting better as they have the edge mentally.

Possession, Completions, Resets & Forcing Errors have gone from NSW's game. You dont have to look hard to find the solution. Pick guys who do the basics first (Mark Minichello, Jason King, Ryan Hoffman) and once the platform is laid, unleash your attacking weapons (Pearce, Jennings, Hayne).

NSW showed their game plan when they picked the side and it was never ever going to work. They filled the team with old experienced solid, slow defensive orientated players. The likes of Cooper, Scott, Monahan and Barrett were always going to have their hands full,

As Watto eluded to, your not going to grind a win out of QLD, they are too good for that, so you have to try and out skill them, not a easy task but the way to go. People have been saying the wheel will turn, Iam afraid thats not going to happen soon, you only have to look at the players coming through the Bronks ranks at present.

Using Sheens theory I would pick my top notch quality and skill based no1,no6,no7 and n09 and fill the other positions with the players who will be around for a few years and stick with them. So for game three I would be looking at
1–--Dugan/Haynes
6---Campo/Carney/Bird
7--Pearce
9--Farah/Ennis
The rest of the side picked on form and potential for the future.

Good Post man.

Although I think the Coach and have to be sacked now…

I think Daley, Bellamy Fulton & co need to have a meeting to draft their joint letter of resignation.

That is the only way this side will improve.

Agree, because what they deem as talent and players "who are built for origin" clearly is anything but.

The number of players used since the start of the 5 series dynasty by Queensland is:

NSW 64
QLD 41

Queensland have been lucky to keep the nucleous of thier squad together for such a long period. The 2 key areas of continuality is Front Row and Halves. NSW most changed are Front Row and Halves…

 And they wonder why NSW suck ATM…

If Queensland keep dominating ORIGIN will DIE.....

Why do you think ORIGIN was invented.....NSW dominace....

they just need to play football again. I truely think they have forgotten about football and created this myth about Origin.

'Built for Origin' is rubbish. Qld pick 2-3 Origin style Players only…

Queensland just picks their best team - this origin player stuff is garbage. They also just plonk a figurehead as coach and get some sharp operators behind the scenes to come up with the game plans. Bellamy is far too use to having an allstar team that require minimal input. If NSW had a game plan last night it was either incredibly poor or not implemented.

QLD pick 17 Origin-style-players.. thats why they've won 5 in a row, der.

I'm sick of this Origin player rubbish as well. Back when Gould was coaching (2002 - 2004) they hit on this idea of fielding an entire team of backrowers. Minichiello at fullback, Lewis and Rooney on the wings, Gasnier and Cooper in the centres, Shaun Timmons at 5/8, Buderus at hooker, guys like Steve Simpson in the front row.

The idea was to have side and speed across the park. And it worked, because you had Brad Fittler or Andrew Johns steering the side around. But it's no surprise that NSW haven't won a series since Johns and Fittler retired.

Queensland, meanwhile will pick a player like Matt Bowen, where as NSW will never give someone like Preston Campbell a run. (Or think of how long they waited to play Jarrod Hayne at fullback)

Going forward I think NSW have too options. They can keep picking sides like they have been, and hope someone like Mitchell Pearce steps up and becomes the next Andrew Johns.

Or they can recognise that the style of play they've been trying to run with hasn't worked with out that dominant organising half and they need to start taking a chance on some naturally talented play makers whose style of play may not suit the typical pattern of NSW Origin football. Guys like Michael Jennings and Robbie Farah, players you need to build a different type of game plan around.
