Michael Ennis, Robbie Farah rivalry here to stay

Bulldogs hooker Michael Ennis and his Wests Tigers opposite Robbie Farah do not like each other.

The scene is the Wests Tigers' season launch on an evening cruise on Sydney Harbour 12 nights ago.
Tigers captain Robbie Farah is being interviewed on stage by Fox Sports commentator Warren Smith.
Smith tosses up the subject of the round-one showdown with the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night.

"What about meeting Michael Ennis first up," Smith asks. "Mick who?" Farah replies.

It was an off-the-cuff response and, in fairness, Farah went on to answer the question - with no mention of Ennis.
There is genuine ill-feeling between Farah, the NSW hooker for the opening two games of 2009, and Ennis, the man who replaced him and has four Blues jerseys to his name.

Further complicating the picture is the three Kangaroo jumpers Farah has accumulated over the same period, an honour Ennis is yet to achieve.

When The Sunday Telegraph approached Farah to talk about Ennis last week, Wests Tigers were swift to make the captain off limits.

It was co-incidentally the same line the last time the Tigers met the Bulldogs.
It all just adds to the intrigue in this ongoing battle between the two hookers.
Like it or not, the Ennis-Farah rivalry is here to stay.
They are completely different styles of players and completely different characters off the field.
Where Ennis is Country, Farah is City.

As much as the spin doctors might try to hose this one down, there is no denying the bad blood.
Bulldogs hooker Ennis understands the appeal of the personal duel and has got to the point where he's just decided to embrace it.

"In terms of the rivalry with me and Farah, I'm so far past it that it's not funny," Ennis said.

"I can understand the rivalry given the Bulldogs and the Tigers are both western Sydney teams and it's easy to throw Ennis and Farah in on the back of it.

"I can see why the fans enjoy it and anything that is going to put bums on seats and showcase our game to a greater audience I'm all for.

"But I'm so focused on our club and my role among the team, if I go out there worrying about this one-on-one battle then I actually think I could lose sight of my role.

"If I do that, I can have a really negative impact on the team.

"That's not something I'm comfortable doing.

"It's part of maturing as a footballer but also as a person.

"I really do feel I've come a long way in terms of that."

As mature as both Ennis and Farah are, come the first scrum tomorrow night there are guaranteed to be some glazed eyeballs. Maybe even a few words.
And this is just the first chapter in the battle for the NSW No. 9 jumper.

I am sick of hearing Michael Ennis in the same sentence as Robbie Farah. Unfortunately I have little doubt that Ennis will again be NSW hooker with Ricky as coach

It annoys me when people say they prefer Ennis over Farah in Origin because "Ennis is a niggler and can get under QLDs skin".

Newsflash: QLD have a side full of great players who are extremely professional!

This idea that Ennis will go out and put them off their game because he has a mouth, is total BS!

We need Farah in the NSW side, and I think Stuart will do the right thing.

Afraid not mate, Stuart wants Dean Young, he said it in his Daily Telegraph column last year and from what I've read here, he said it in RLW as well.

Yes, I can't believe the selectors would even be considering Ennis after his cowardly display in last year's final Origin. You would think this would open up the way for Robbie to grab the spot, but as the poster above said, Dean Young will get the job. For some reason the NSW selectors always go for 'meat and potatoes' type hookers - God forbid if they have any creativity or flair!

That's because Nsw selector are imbo's

Farah is better then Ennis in all departments except missed tackles

Geez the excuses people are putting forth already are a bit negativeand pathetic ….Im sure Stuart didnt say "Young will be NSW hooker no matter what"....half a season before Origin, have some faith in Robbie performing well enough and earning a spot without doubt

I have faith in Robbie performing well enough alright, but I don't have faith in the selectors choosing the best players in the team. They have given me no reason to have faith in them, in recent years. That said, this is a new year and a new season, so let's hope I'm wrong and you're right.

I read that too.

I doubt it will happen though, he may make the side if Stuart wants him there, but I reckon there is zero chance of him starting at No.9.

Its really between Farah and Ennis.

I no this is not going to happen.
would love to see Robbie Farah & Ennis go at it in a scrum.
very similar to Robbie & Watts, opposing hooker , did during the " love in scrum" in the game against cowboys at Leichhardt Oval not long ago.

As long as Farah has a good game for the Tigers and helps get them across the line, that should get him a points decision against Ennis at the same time.

Ennis is weak as.
He's scared of Sandow, clearly the last person you want in an origin side.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Young start and Farah off the bench. Not a bad option if Farah can't go 80 in origin.
