PENRITH'S off-contract star Michael Gordon says he will weigh up all before making a decision on his future.

A free agent at the end of the year, Michael Gordon today admitted he was disappointed when coach Ivan Cleary named Lachlan Coote at fullback ahead of him for the opening round clash with the Bulldogs.

Gordon has made no secret of the fact he wants play in the No.1 jersey this year and was a standout performer in both of Penrith's pre-season trials.

But while he said he had no animosity against the coach or the man who got his spot - he said his future was up for grabs.

“Of course, I’m 28 now,” he said.

“I still reckon I’ve got a lot of time left but I suppose when you go to re-sign all these things come in to factor so I suppose it will be a wait and see what happens.”

He said Cleary broke the news to both players individually at training before the team was officially announced.

“Obviously to start with when he told me the news I was disappointed and he said he expected that,” Gordon explained.

“At the end of the day he has picked the team and I will go out and play the best I can no matter where I’m picked.

“I understood the decisions and he gave me his reasons, that they were picking the safest team and the best team for round one and I totally understood.”

But despite the setback, he hasn’t given up on trying to win the race for No.1.

“A week is a long time in footy let alone six months in footy,” he said.

“All I can do is play the best I can no matter where I’m picked.

“Obviously I prefer playing fullback but Cootey is a specialist fullback and we have a couple of other young fullbacks coming through so there is always going to be competition for that spot.

“It doesn’t matter if he picks me in front row, fullback, centre, winger, I will just try to play the best I can each week and the contract stuff should look after itself.”

Its alright tosay he would be handy on the wing, but he wants to play fullback, & we could have a good one in Tedesco.

Yea if he signed with us now he wouldn't make the 1st grade side playing fullback as sheens has huge wraps on Tedesco he would still play on the wing but we will see how Tedesco goes this year might go well he might not but lets hope he goes really well considering he is a Wests junior

One day there will be an article about Michael Gordan without being accompanied by the word 'air'

westTAHger how would he be a handy addition on the wing? the whole point of the issue is him wanting to play fullback, so why would he leave the Panthers for that reason only to play on the wing at his new club? And as far as goal kicking goes, he's more then handy, he's the best goal kicker the game has seen since El Masri

Flash is an outstanding player, we are committed else where, so unfortunately he wont be with us..would i like him a tiger, of course I would, Id also like Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Paul Gallen, we wont be seeing any of them either

Not liking these stories about why he wants to move on… Like realistically, what clubs are looking for a Fullback?

Titans, Souths, Roosters, possibly the Cowboys but I reckon Bowen will still be playing NRL when he is 55...

Suck it up princess... Be grateful you are playing in the NRL!

If he came to us now he would be our No 1 in the blink of an eye.
If you don't think the Roosters or Souths will find some money for him you're dreaming.

Watto - Know he's keen on him but I think he'd put him on the backburner for Gordon .
Tedesco is the future - Gordon's already got the runs on the board.
