Mick Potter's week from hell

It's been seven days since drama erupted at Wests Tigers over the future of coach Mick Potter and his relationship with captain Robbie Farah. Potter opened up on the most difficult week of his career ahead of Monday night's vital clash with Melbourne.

**My relationship with Robbie Farah**
"We're fine. We have always been fine," Potter said. "You guys have said we had a confrontation but there's been no confrontation at all. I have been understanding of the situation. He's been hammered a little bit. He is pretty emotional. Or he was pretty emotional and upset about his treatment. And I can understand that. But my job is to get him to play footy and to get him in the right frame of mind to play his best because he is one of our best players. I want him on the field playing his best."

**Farah wants out?**
Potter admits Farah was unhappy but never asked to be released from his contract.
When asked if there had been a formal releases request, the coach replied: "No mate, no. He was just disappointed at all that went on. He is a passionate guy and wears his heart on his sleeve. The emotion gets the better of him sometimes." Asked whether Farah 'had Potter's back', the coach said: "I don't think he has used those words but he supports me."

**Missing training**
Farah caused a stir when he missed an important training session in the lead-up to Monday night's game. But Potter has no issues over his captain's absence and revealed Farah had spoken to the players to express his remorse.
Potter said: "Robbie addressed them individually as well as a group. He apologised to them, just because he felt he let them down for that particular day at training. We just cut him a bit of slack there."

**The media heat**
"It has probably been a tough week but I understand you guys (the media) have to write about stuff and talk about stuff. I'd rather it not be that. We don't want any excuses, there are no excuses. We are out there to perform, that's our job. We played rugby league and I coach the team. That won't be an acceptable excuse, to say that there's been some bad press."

**Uncertain future**
Potter remains unsigned beyond this season. His fate appears to be rest on whether he can guide the Tigers to the top eight, although he does admit he is not universally liked among the players.
"It's a contracted life, that's what it is. Potentially my contract ends at the end of October and I understand that," he said. "I am going to try and do everything I can to get that extended.
"Everyone has an opinion but my job is to get the players to perform. I think I have been doing that, I have a reasonable job of doing that. I'd like to continue to do that. I can't please everyone in a club where you've got 30-odd players because everyone wants to play first grade. Perhaps my methods sometimes aggravate people. But that is in every single club. I am sure that happens."

**I'm not walking away**
The Tigers coach declared: "I'm not a quitter. I'll fight right until the end.
"I'd like to think that is the mentality the whole club has got."

This past week has confirmed one thing for me….The club has rocks in its head if they get rid of Potter!

I like this bit…although we have been on the end of some lop-sided score lines this year I don't feel we have thrown in the towel in any of our losses...I think we have Mick to thank for that,,,

I'm liking the way Potter has handled himself in pressers this week.
He looks a little more relaxed and a little more expressive in his responses even managing a joke or two with the reporters.

In a funny way the events of the past week has probably helped Potter get another gig. Before all this blew up he probably needed a top eight finish or he was gone.

Now he has become the media's underdog who has been treated very badly by the club.He is getting the public sympathy vote in buckets loads. Also the media are highlighting what bad luck he had this year with injuries and also the internal turmoil he has had to contend with.

Anyway I think we are 100 to 1 to make the eight, but also think the club might think sacking Potter might be a PR disaster and might be forced to re sign him.

From where I sit I think the club must be very strong, 2015 will be the start of a new era, they either have to sign Potter and back him to the hilt or pick up another coach they think might do a better job transforming rookies into champions. What ever they do, they have to back the coach and give them a decent contract

This is the best story i've read about this all week.

Straight to the point, not rumours and bullshit.

I hope that this will put the whole situation to an abrupt end. A win against the Storm will help aswell!

Keeping Potter will help the club settle down both emotionally and financially. If Sheens wins his case in court we would find it hard to afford to sign a reasonable coach. Even if we did it would take the players another year to familiarise themselves with the new coaching.

Sheens has the best lawyers in the country . Wests Tigers are relying on legal aid !
Could be a close battle in the court room lol

Sheens doesn't even need the best Lawyers in the country. WT were in the wrong and don't have a leg to stand on.

It's not if sheens wins the case, it when.

Potter is all class,he has ability, has dignity, and is well above these nuffies that have employed him. The Weather Man and 'Hollywood' could learn a lot from the way he conducts himself.

And the Rabbitohs just thrash Newcastle 50-something, and Bennett has jumped ship. And our coach is a problem????? Give me a break.

Potter has made some good decisions that I myself would have made, if I was in charge.
However, he also has done things that I myself, would have not done.

I do believe he is the man for the job though.
Drama needs to end.
