Mid Season- how do you think WT are going

Like most clubs,we have so much of our $$ cap tied up in 7 or 8 players
This issue is enhanced by Luai who'se playing value is a fraction of his salary atm..as is Toa
But the other big gap we have is the ability of our backups, many of whom are really only reserve grade standard at best
We dont seem to have a heap of potential quality(and low priced) juniors coming thru the system who can play the odd NRL game like many other clubs do..and the few we have get picked off pretty easily. We supposedly have one of the largest junior bases in the comp??Talent identification seems a problem ..still
And if we do keep em ..like Makasini.and even Bula....theres so much pressure($$$ and media hype) to push them thru early.
Galvin /TDS fall into this category as well
The good news is many of those top 8 highly paid players are indeed very capable and hold the joint together whe they are actually on the field
But we cant plan for that

Our junior depth - haywood, attard, javon - are probably a year away until they can really contribute if injuries happen. Can’t help but think not recruiting an nrl standard back up 1 & 9 might have cost them a top 8 spot.

I dont disagree and while they recruited better in the back up halves, the 9 seemed lacking...

althought, im not sure how realistic it is to have a quality set of back up spine players in the current era like most seem to expect us to have with dolphins added 3 years ago, bears next year and cheifs on the horizon. Does feel like the talent pool is getting stretched and only to worsen.

No, I’m quite comfortable knowing he was just not a first grader. And I wouldn’t be in the minority.
He had his chance early in his career but stupid decisions off the field and not being able to keep the rubbish out of his game on it prevented him reaching his potential.

Even with us Naden showed glimpses, but something would happen to set him back again, then father time caught up.

Theyre hard to hire...Verrells wants %600k,which is not a lot short of what we pay Api,,who is daylite from him
We figured Latu wld grow into the back up halves role..but at this stage he hasnt for whatever reason
Still figure we have the core to make the edge of the 8,but any more injuries were stuffed

Don’t think we have the cattle to make the 8 sadly and that’s been highlighted by our truly dismal performances over the past 3 weeks.

After such a promising start we just turned water once a few troops went down. Granted they were all major outs, but honestly those last 3 games have stripped any confidence I may have had about us making the 8 this season.

I think we’re that team that pops up every year, the early May premiers - you know the one that surprises everyone by starting gangbusters only to gradually slide down the ladder once other more established teams start getting into the swing of things and playing consistently.

I’m hoping we will jag a few more wins at least, but as Ink said once bitten twice shy and these guys just do not fill me with any confidence at all. My prediction is a 10th placed finish, just avoiding our old favourite possie of 9th lol.

Look at Storm vs Bulldogs this week; no Harry Grant, no Cameron Munster, they gave up a good lead! . You can’t win without your key players( API and AD, plus Samuela and Bula!!) Keep the faith, good times ahead, we’ll scrape into the 8 with all our troops back I reckon🤞🤞
