Minute Silence

For me the minute silence before today's game put everything into perspective. For those of you who don't know, there was a minute silence for the Australians recently killed in Afghanistan.

Yeah it sucks that we didn't make the finals and that we have been rubbish but in the end does it really matter? I am passionate about League and about the Wests Tigers but in reality it's only footy. There are so many more important things in life.

The minute silence today and before the Roosters game at Leichhardt (Farah's mum passing) is a clear indication that in the big picture not making the finals isn't that great a deal.

as a tigers fan, not making the finals is a big deal. as the other dude said, shouldnt compare footy to what you are.

yeah, but you could say that about everything. should i not enjoy my meal at night because kids in africa are starving?

sport is part of our culture, its ok to be upset about a loss and get into the nitty gritty of our season. its not as if folks are turning cars and smashing up shops like they do in european soccer.

im not disrespecting any soliders or anyone who has passed away, it sucks and its horrible.. but as a tigers fan, not making the finals is a big deal.

I agree MTD.

^ sorry i edited it. i dont want to rufflle any feathers because i appreciate its a sensative subject and i dont want it to be intepreted the wrong way.. but if we dont enjoy what we have (the opportunity to get disappointed at the tigers not making the finals) we'd all be depressed 24/7 about death and world events.

** i mean afterall, its what these guys are fighting for right? so countries like afghanistan can hopefully one day be able to go to footy and soccer matches. so they also have the opportunity to get upset about a footy team losing as opposed to a school being blown up. some might disagree, thats just how i perceive it.

Very true Sabre

Happy gives you permission to change your Avatar back Thanks for being a good sport mate

You said it best the first time around MTD, these two topics are not related whatsoever and it is unfair of you to try and do so Sabre.

I mourn the fallen every day.

I also mourn the end of season 2012 for my side.

I do both in different ways.

Fail to see the comparison. What happened to those soldiers was a tragedy, but just because of that tragedy means we can't be filthy with this joke of a football team and coach?

Are you people blind?
How can you not see the comparison? And how an you make accusations of me about comparing the two?

A Rugby League loss is so insignificant in life that it really should not matter. Some things are far more important.

They are completely unrelated.

Of course it's tragic that soldiers died.

Doesn't mean people can't be angry about the pathetic performance of their football team.

Sorry if this sounds harsh and i mean no disrespect to any soldier who lost their life, but this really is a bleeding heart mentality. Tragedy yes, but we're not in a position to let it affect our daily lives i.e support our footy team and show emotion over them. We paid the proper respects before hand. Isn't they're role to fight for our freedom? So if we can't celebrate our freedom and do what we love, wouldn't they have died in vain?

All I said was that it put things into perspective for me…
I was much more saddened during the minute silence than after the loss.

So what will you continue to do about the terrible deaths of the five aussie soldiers?

There is a million tragedies ocurring that are far worse than a side losing a game. This isnt a revelation. They are all incomparable.

People are venting for the moment about football. If you dont like it dont read it. Just dont tell them that they are foolish because there is worse things going on in the world….this is an outlet for us all and we are fully aware that in the great scheme of things the Wests Tigers bowing out is very low on the care factor scale.

That being said it does hold some importance to a lot of us and we care about this as well as all other factors affecting us.

Side note: the minute silence was actually a minute silence. You couldn't hear a peep…I think it was the Brisbane crowd that had bogans shouting through it. Wests tigers fans are a respectful bunch.

There was one idiot who yelled out "They shouldn't be there"

Probably at home this morning going himself reading his Ray Hadley biography

Hopefully not an admission of guilt Smeg

But what they said is true

Get our blokes home now Gillard

What stood out for me in that minutes silence was Adam Blair looking up to the sky like he was asking for help. Maybe even Adam knows this has not been his season. Otherwise he was praying for the souls of our fallen soldiers. Either way I felt the human touch from Blair. Seems like a nice guy judging from that gesture to the skies. Hope he plays better in 2013.
