Mitch Achurch

You cant deny Yoss he'd be handy right about now….and its not up to us mug fans to be the experts on recruitment and retention, we can only go on what we see..... theres lots at the club on very good coin paid to do this job well, supposedly

That's not what I'm saying Ink and he would be very handy to have. But people blow up about player X being released when they show up in first grade at another team but say nothing at the time they left. I'm just saying it's easy to point the finger when things like this happen but there are a stack of players who are released or move on and nothing is said.

Can't keep everyone but it's pretty ridiculous that we go into the season two props short, and yet we let a young prop like that leave.

They say nothing at the time of release because he's an unknown and we are not recruitment experts…though Im sure he was mentioned in some 20's threads, they all are to varying degrees
We dont hear of players leaving in the lowers, its rarely mentioned - its very low profile
You cant blame people for asking questions when it look like ''one that got away'' returns to our screens in prime time

Happy he has found a place in a NRL squad.

Was good in the NYC as a back rower but there were better in the side, had a horror run with injury at the Cows. Came back to BRET but under instructions from the top coaches was sent to the Magpies, they did an excellent job and Gus took a punt on him. His play has gone to another level over the off season.

One must take into account that he was playing against Parra but it was good to see another product debut in the NRL.

cant keep them all , retension would be based on what the coaches saw last year , woods and groat going good , achurch may not have been playing that well , but good to see him in top grade , he played well

Sure I can! No we're not recruitment experts but that doesn't stop people pointing out where we went wrong. All I'm saying is that stacks of players move between clubs at the level, most of them do nothing, but the moment one of them does anything remotely good (like make NRL) people can't wait to stick the boot into Sheens. He may get it right 97% of the time but gets zero credit for it.

Yoss im with you mate…look at how many that have been let go that were supposedly going to play first grade and why didn't sheens give them a go...lol

who has left us to go on to big and better things....not many as most have failed...wheres mitch brown at bulldogs and the all the fuss made over gallant.

He gets plenty of credit, from his supposed shifty sneaky smokey team selections, to making jokes and trumping top line opposition forwards, to the ''time for a change of coach'' threads.

Stick the boot in?
I think youre over reacting a bit, but just what is wrong with criticism when he does get it wrong the 3% of the time?

Who would you prefer, the pommy oompa loompa with the big head? Or Achurch?

He was never a prop, and we lost him twice didn't we? I thought he went to the Cowboys and came back and then went to Penrith. No one cried poor depth issues when he went to the Cows, (although a couple of people did post that they weren't happy to see him go).

We have the talent…..it is the way we develop it that worries me!

We have 25 contracts available for players who have a fair chance of playing NFL football not 200 and let's face bar injury his chance of playing in the top grade were buckleys. Sheens persists with out of form players, always has and always will. From what I saw last night would be a better pro wrapt on than Groat at present

He'd be handy right now, had a good debut last night. Should have a good career at a team like the Pamfers.

Can't keep them all, and unfortunately hindsight is always 20/20\. Those in charge of recruitment and retention don't have that luxury.

His old man was a good rugby player for Eastwood in the 80's and 90's.

Played well last night, good luck to him.

We lost Gibbs, Fifita & Achurch (all props) for Blair. Achurch captained the Magpies in 2011 & was their best … a Balmain junior who played U20's with Simon Dwyer ... he should still be a Wests Tiger ... Tim Sheens why ???

So no doubt if I search through your posts I'll find all the ones where you complain about Achurch leaving the club? Or is it just a pretext to stick the boot into Sheens a bit more?? Hindsight is 20/20 right?

Paranoia ! All I was stating was that we are down a prop or two & we let Mitch go. He played real good last year at PROP & was a Balmain junior … come on ! I will be there tomorrow night cheering for a win. I expect you will be there too.

What's paranoid about it? You ask "Tim Sheens why??" There is a massive turnover in players at that level. Most don't work out, some do. Not everything is TIm Sheens fault, this is just unfortunate.
