Mitch Brown has made his goal clear for 2012 – to secure a permanent starting position preferably in the number 1 jersey.
Brown wore the Wests Tigers ‘utility tag’ well this season, having played 5 games at centre, 13 on the wing, and coming off the interchange bench 3 times.
Injuries to centre Chris Lawrence and wingers Lote Tuqiri and Matt Utai saw Brown fill the void for Head Coach Tim Sheens and although he is not complaining, he clearly wants more game time next season.
“I wanted to cement a position somewhere in the backline this year but I guess the boys played too well for me to get in,’’ Brown confessed.
“It was tough. I wanted the full-back spot after playing there in the finals series last year but Tim Moltzen played really well and he is a very good footballer.
“I’m lucky in a way in that although I haven’t had a solid position for the past two seasons, I have played 40 games for the Club.
“I’ve been working hard on my fitness so I can give myself the best possible shot at a starting position.”
Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah said Brown was an important member of the side.
“Mitch never complains and he has the respect of all of his team-mates,’’ Farah said.
“It wouldn’t be easy for him. There were weeks during the season where he played awesome but found himself on the bench a week later.
“Mitch is a very hard trainer because he knows we need him every time he gets his opportunity. And when he does, he never lets you down. He is very valuable.”
