Injured Wests Tigers half Tim Moltzen will not be making a mercy dash to Canberra to replace Benji Marshall should the Kiwi star succumb to a knee injury ahead of Friday night's elimination semi-final against the Raiders.
Moltzen was rumoured to be on standby for Marshall in what would have been a surprise return from a season-ending knee injury.
But the talented utility player won't be rushed into a comeback, sticking to his original timetable of a 2011 return following a complete knee reconstruction.
Moltzen rejected the increasingly popular LARS procedure for traditional knee surgery, which has a longer recovery time frame but may result in increased strength.
"When we decided to take the longer approach to the operation for the knee, it was always known it was going to be a six-month injury," he said on Thursday.
"I haven’t thought otherwise. Everything is going well but it's a time (thing) and I can't change that."
Marshall arrived in the nation's capital on Thursday but it's unclear whether he joined team-mates in a behind-closed-doors training session
Despite the uncertainty, Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys is growing in confidence the gifted No.6 will make it onto Canberra Stadium.
"Benji's doing pretty well. He is doing everything he can to get on the field Friday night," he said.
"We've got everything crossed that he'll do so."
The Raiders expect Marshall to play, with rival Terry Campese excited about the prospect of meeting a player he admits got the better of him in two previous meetings this year.
Campese said: "(He) has got the wood on me twice this year so I've got one game to get it back and this is the game that counts."
