Injured Wests Tigers half Tim Moltzen will not be making a mercy dash to Canberra to replace Benji Marshall should the Kiwi star succumb to a knee injury ahead of Friday night's elimination semi-final against the Raiders.

Moltzen was rumoured to be on standby for Marshall in what would have been a surprise return from a season-ending knee injury.

But the talented utility player won't be rushed into a comeback, sticking to his original timetable of a 2011 return following a complete knee reconstruction.

Moltzen rejected the increasingly popular LARS procedure for traditional knee surgery, which has a longer recovery time frame but may result in increased strength.

"When we decided to take the longer approach to the operation for the knee, it was always known it was going to be a six-month injury," he said on Thursday.

"I haven’t thought otherwise. Everything is going well but it's a time (thing) and I can't change that."

Marshall arrived in the nation's capital on Thursday but it's unclear whether he joined team-mates in a behind-closed-doors training session

Despite the uncertainty, Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys is growing in confidence the gifted No.6 will make it onto Canberra Stadium.

"Benji's doing pretty well. He is doing everything he can to get on the field Friday night," he said.

"We've got everything crossed that he'll do so."

The Raiders expect Marshall to play, with rival Terry Campese excited about the prospect of meeting a player he admits got the better of him in two previous meetings this year.

Campese said: "(He) has got the wood on me twice this year so I've got one game to get it back and this is the game that counts."

wondering if the tag beholds his position for next year…

how so?

because moltzen is better than lui but lui is getting there. for his age and the amount of first grade games he has played he isnt going to badly.

i understand why they arent bringing moltz back this yr but man they must be so tempted just to put him on the interchange

I'd love to see Molz back in the team but not to be battered and bruised around. He was made play FB and he hurt his elbow twice. At 1 stage he looked scared playing FB.I dont want he hm be used off the bench and then be thrown around like Hodgo used to .. Atleast Hodgo didnt feel any pain.
I knows its well against the odds but if he plays this year my mouth will drop open wide enough for an elephant to back in there ..

MOLTZEN POSITIVE ABOUT HIS RETURN IN 2011

>
Tim Moltzen has put constant speculation about a possible return to the playing field to rest. For 2010, at least.
>
**Wests Tigers Coach Tim Sheens had repeatedly told the media that Moltzen would not be rushing back from a knee injury.**
The talented full-back/half-back underwent a knee reconstruction after suffering the season ending injury against the North Queensland Cowboys in round five.
>
Even this week, reports surfaced again that the Central Coast junior would slot straight back into the team due to the heavy injury toll.
>
**The man himself ended the talk once and for all, saying the next time he pulls on a Wests Tigers jersey will be in 2011.**
“Everything is looking positive for next year. It has been a long season and we are nearing the end,’’ Moltzen said.
>
“I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow night and I will be heading down there with Stephen (Humphreys) to watch, that is.
>
“When we decided to take the longer approach to the operation, we always knew that it was going to be a six month injury and I haven’t thought otherwise at the moment.
>
“Everything is going really well. It has only been five months at the moment so I’m still a month away.”
>
**In his laid back style, Moltzen said he wasn’t fussed whether he would return as a fullback or half-back. He is very effective in either the one or seven jersey.**
“I haven’t really thought about it. I’m just trying to get my head around this injury,’’ he said.
>
“I’m more looking forward to the off season than I’ve had before. I have been out for so long so I am looking forward to running and doing all that fitness stuff again because it has been something I have missed for the last five months.
>
“Where I play at the moment isn’t a big worry for me. I will be happy to go back and start somewhere in the team next year if that’s possible.
>
“The boys are playing some good footy and the team is looking strong. Hopefully Tim can find somewhere to put me in.”

Pretty much smashes the Raiders rumour too bits as well....

The halfwit that started that Raiders rumour has no idea. The club rates Moltzen too highly and he won't be going anywhere for quite awhile.
