Moltzen to be squeezed out

The Tigers have no room for injured fullback Tim Moltzen on next year's roster - despite the fact he is under contract. Exciting youngster James Tedesco is now clearly entrenched as the club's number one fullback. He was outstanding against South Sydney on Friday night and has been the club's most consistent back in 2013 - despite playing with a broken bone in his leg. Moltzen has always been closely aligned to Benji Marshall but no longer enjoys the support of senior players. He will be offered a release from the final year of his contract in coming weeks and has held talks with English clubs. The Tigers have some great kids coming through but need to get rid of the dead wood - the likes of Moltzen, Matt Utai and Lote Tuqiri - to give them a chance to come through.

Never really made his name as s food fullback for my liking and was only there because we had no better choice (and he was Benjis mate).

I thought maybe they viewed him as cover for 5/8th until Moses is ready,Austin must be higher up the pecking order,as Braith surely can't be the man.

This is the same report from the other day which then caused Moltzen to come out and publicly deny he's going anywhere.

He may eventually leave, but id say he's with us for a little while yet unfortunately.

it's a shame he does not run to ball with the same vigour as our former fullback, Hodgo did.
if this was the case, then we would be eagerly anticipating his return.
but it's not.

Moltzen is a great athlete, but he doesn't possess the heart and courage all great players have. He'd probably be one of the quickest in the team and had great hands on top of it. A shame he was such a…softie?

Didn't we have this argument in another thread a week ago? I hope he stays, as he covers the whole back line as a back-up and is probably the best 5/8 we have at the moment.

I also think that as he is on contract and he was injured in our colours it is wrong to shunt him on.

Still, that seems to be our style - Gibbs, Heighno, Ryan , Fifita, Benji, Hodgo, Mitch Brown. They could form their own team soon!

Both Chris Lawrence and Tim Moltzen are still under contracts. If Lawrence remains after the form he has shown over the past year or two then I think Moltzen should also stay. Moltzen missed nearly all 2013 season through injury and deserves the chance to show what he can do in 2014\. If the club suffers anywhere near the number of injuries of 2013 he will certainly be very handy.

HOW THE HELL does Moltzen "Deserve" A chance to show us what he can do in 2014?

- People seem to forget this guy has been with us for 6 YEARS!!
After 6 years, He is still not a starter in any position? He isn't even a proven reliable bench utility!!
He has been given more than enough "time" to cement a position in this side, And stamp his name in the NRL
He's over 6ft and 90kgs, He has almost clocked up 100 games….
he has been a starter (When fit) in our side for at least 5 years!!
If he still needs another year to "show us what he's got" Then there is NO OTHER OPTION!!

- When will people quit with the "Give him time" sympathy? He has had more time than any other NRL player...
Most clubs would have moved him on years ago!!

Look how Teddy performed after his knee reco,on the back of 30 minutes of NRL and with a cracked bone in his leg,Moltzen took 18 months or more but still wasn't that fearless,he has had his chances alright.
But with no Benji,Sheens or his boys club it is sink or swim for him,it may be the best thing for him,or he may just walk because it's all too hard.

6 long years

I think he should stay purely coz of the improvement he showed under potter. We all agreed to give everyone a fresh start under potter and moltzen was one of the "seniors" who was improving.

However I really doubt his heart will be with us with the departure of some of his best mates.

I'm hoping he can stay.

Not fussed either way …..... he hasnt had much luck with injury but is he an asset to the club or liability ? For me I dont know the answer. Whichever way they go I am Ok.

If he's not playing halfback I don't think he should be in the team. With Luke Brooks set to be there next year I can't see a spot for him.

I don't understand the moltzen hate. Well I do a bit, but it's probably over done in my opinion. Take him out of the fullback position and I think he is going to be a great asset.

Sheensy stuffed the poor bloke around for so many years changing him from one position to the next. I thought he was really solid this year in FB, just not as good as teddy. But if people have an issue with him under the highball and his kick returns, then put him in 6! I don't think he is unwilling to hit the line, just hitting it hard with pace.

People have always said he was a 6\. We don't have the money to keep subsidising players at other clubs. Why would you ditch a good player who probably isn't on much cash? Especially when we really need the depth in the halves and fb.

How much is he on and where do you play him ?

To me Tedesco is a much better 1\. Moltzen could fit in at 6 and probably do it well but is he worth persisting with ?
