A once promising NRL youngster has been accused of running cocaine across Sydney for a sophisticated drug ring.

Former Wests Tigers junior Jaleel Seve-Derbas is one of eight people charged with drug supply following a seven-month police probe.

The 23-year-old back rower, who represented Lebanon at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, has also been charged with participating in a criminal group alongside his younger brother Jahsam Derbas.

Jaleel Seve-Derbas was a former Wests Tigers junior.

The Gold Coast-based athlete was arrested at Tweed Heads police station about 7.30pm on Monday but was granted bail at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.

Seve-Derbas was supported in court by his sister and 20-year-old brother Jahsam Derbas, who was granted bail himself in January.

Just last month the pair celebrated Seve-Derbas’ birthday together, drinking poolside at Sydney’s Ivy club, while the footballer poses with luxury cars on his Instagram account.

But prosecutors allege the close knit brothers are pawns in a large scale drug syndicate and could face jail time if convicted after dealing to undercover cops.

“I’m pretty sure for Mr Seve it’s not looking so glamorous right now,” Magistrate Robyn Denes said.

The truck driver who usually works in Byron Bay allegedly delivered cocaine to Wentworthville customers in Sydney’s west between September and October last year.

Magistrate Denes said the cocaine tends to be imported from South America and “you have to have lived under a rock not to see places like Mexico have murders, child sex abuse and prostitution” as a result of the drug trade.

“If not for the runners, those higher up can’t profit from it,” she said.

Seve played alongside Tigers hooker Robbie Farah at the 2017 RLWC and even introduced the veteran to his mum on the sidelines during the competition.

He now plays for the Tweed Seagulls in the Queensland Rugby League and is listed for a home game this Sunday.

The court heard Seve-Derbas had been nabbed while reporting for bail for other offences.

Seve, who offered up a $9000 bail surety, was ordered to continue to live in Southport and report daily to Tweed Heads police station.

He must surrender his passport and was banned from contacting his brother or any co-accused and witnesses.

Seve-Derbas’s matter will return to court later this month and is the latest scalp from Strike Force Toallo which was established last August.

In December police raided homes in Greenacre, Kogarah, Bexley, and Canterbury as part of the investigation, seizing cash, substances believed to be cocaine and cannabis, guns, knuckle dusters, and jewellery.

That month 26-year-old Hamzeh Naboulis and Ibrahim Naboulis, 29 were arrested in Greenacre and charged with a raft of offences including drug supply.

The operation also netted 26-year-old Tanya Paraskeva, Dylan Singh, 21, and 24-year-olds Aaron Paradissis and Anthony Palumberi who were charged with drug supply.

So this happened in Taree? Wish i had known - would have driven down to throw a few punches at the "penis" myself.

So much for MCK not being involved in this indicident. He has pleaded guilty to assaulting the driver. The Parra loss still hurts but at least this imbecile won't be playing for us for much longer.

When do sign new players to replace Chee Kam and Musgrove? The club very much needs to sign replacement players as soon as possible.new

NRL Wests Tigers player Michael Chee Kam has admitted to assaulting a ride-share driver at Bondi Beach in Sydney. The 27-year-old was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm but this was withdrawn and dismissed at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.

The Samoa international pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of common assault.

Police in January alleged Chee Kam had punched a 26-year-old driver through his car's open window on Campbell Parade about 10.30pm on December 30. Officers were flagged down and later arrested Chee Kam in a taxi nearby. The New Zealand-born forward has played in all six NRL rounds this year and scored two tries.

He is listed for sentence at the same court on May 7.

Wests Tigers utility Michael Chee Kam will be free to return in round nine against Penrith after the NRL club finalised his punishment for a common assault.

The Tigers on Wednesday stood Chee Kam down for two matches and fined the 27-year-old an undisclosed amount, after he pleaded guilty in a Sydney court last week.

Chee Kam has already served one game of his ban against the Gold Coast on Saturday night, while he was not named to face the Sydney Roosters this weekend.

It's understood the punishment has been signed off by the NRL, with the club and integrity unit having worked closely on the matter.

Chee Kam had originally been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in January, however that was withdrawn and dismissed in court last Wednesday.

Instead the New Zealand-born forward pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of common assault over the December incident. He will be sentenced on May 7.

The two-game ban means Chee Kam can return as part of the NRL's Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium - the same venue he was the last-minute hero for the Tigers against Brisbane in round five.

Never said you were naive but your thinking on this matter is. This is not a criminal decision. It’s weak leadership buckling to the squeaky wheel. I can only imagine the non criminal lawyers would be rubbing there hands with glee with this decision. Lawsuits here we come.

Well they might be rubbing their hands because they sense the opportunity to get paid to run an interesting case, but that doesn't mean they'll win. If a case is brought and is shot down with costs then we can revisit the naivety of my thinking. I'm pretty sure the ARLC will have taken advice on their exposure from some pretty well recognised specialists in the area and they've decided to take the course they've taken.

De Belin's case has been dismissed with costs at first instance and it will have cost him hundreds of thousands in his own costs plus he'll be saddled with a similar bill from the NRL. De Belin loses a stack of money and doesn't get what he wants and his counsel paint him in a bad light by trying to claim that the NRL don't sufficiently educate players about attitudes and violence towards women. The NRL witnesses get made to look like amateur stooges (probably because they are). Neither party comes out a winner, just the lawyers with their excessive fees for ordinary advice...
