Yes, I know why etc etc both were released. Let's not debate that here.

My concern is we have now, very publicly, said that if you whine / sook / act like a brat then you 'will' get what you want.

We have given every slimey player manager the blueprint to get out from a deal with us. They can actually say to their clients "go there, take the security... and if you are hurt or play crap, your deal is safe...play great and I can get you out of it and upgraded elsewhere easily".

Moses had six months to run and spat his dummy out during a game (unforgivable)...the little______ held the aces as he was heading off soon and was sabotaging actual games.

Matterson though had two years to run...we held the aces.

But the result was the same...a long sook, spit out your dummy...and off you go to more money.

I do not have the answers to this problem and I don't know what I would have done in both cases.

But it 'does' create a fairly worrisome pair of precedent cases. Let's say we somehow got Jai Arrow, he came down and ran for 200 a game and then got wind the Rorters wanted him. All he would have to do is sulk and he'd be let go also.

Absolutely mate, and I have no doubt there are signings coming. There is no way we would just release Matterson unless we needed that 450 000 to add to another deal that is imminent. No way.

But, long term, it does tell any future players that we will let you go if you spit your dummy out and cry long enough. That is my concern.

Penrith released Moylan and RCG because they were unhappy. It is not unique to us it's just a sign of the times. Contracts are easily broken if players want out and have got somewhere else to go.
Pretty sure Packer would be out the door too if someone else wanted him but considering what he is on and his form he has no options.

Moylan and RCG both had horrific contracts that Penrith wanted to get rid of...all clubs want bad contracts gone.

Our cases are different as both were players we had on 'good' deals.

Well, with big Ben retired and Esan gone...there is a million plus.

If Matterson had of stayed, he'd have had potentially two rep level players to join him. That probably would have meant a semi spot.

Part of the problem is that the NRL organisation itself is not supporting the contract system. They have let player managers run riot, club CEO's and coaches put in place ridiculous contracts and also go behind rival clubs backs to approach players under contract, players have been permitted to play the mental wellness card with no repercussions.

The contract system has got little actual legs on which to sustain itself. Its all but broken in the current situation.

This, along with salary cap anomolies, and TPA ridicule leaves me fearing for the organisations future. If its not cleared up, we may well end up heading to another split in the game.

Still driven by the players who know that they can attract interest from other clubs. An excuse/reason can be created to get out of a contract regardless of whether a deal is considered good or bad if the player wants out, and another club wants them.

I think the NRL has to come up with some harsh penalties to deter these sooks from doing such things. Hit them hard in their hip pocket. These guys are professional players and are paided well to do so and if they don't like the coach or what ever other reason just spit the dummy and want out. If they were made to pay their club hefty compensation out of their own pockets they may think twice about doing it.

I think it is worth noting that this young fellow has left two other clubs in the same way. Wests Tigers are not alone on this one.
Of particular note; Wests Tigers players no longer wanted him around. Makes me wonder if it was the same with his previous teams.

We as patrons of this game have to show these players that its not right. We need to rubbish these players at the games, no matter how good they play, we need to show how we feel about players that act in this way.

Yes, I think it’s weird that he could well be heading back to one of those clubs though. Why would they take him back if there were previous problems, same coach too isn’t it?
