Rarely have two players who have played together so rarely created so much excitement.

But when Mitchell Moses makes his much-anticipated NRL debut alongside his great mate Luke Brooks against Penrith at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, we will finally see what all the hype is about.

The young playmakers were earmarked for bigger things when they starred for Holy Cross College Ryde and Wests Tigers as they came through the grades, but injuries meant they rarely set foot on the field at the same time.

"The worst one was my leg, I broke my tibia when I was in year 12," Moses said. "Coming back from that, I played last year in the 20s for round six. I was always in one week, out one week with the injury."

Asked if there were times he questioned his ability to come back, the 19-year-old said: "One hundred per cent. When I was week in, week out, I got some screws out, all the hardware in my leg. They said that would work then it didn't. I went through a bit. I just needed rest, some time off helped it."

Which is why Moses' debut, most likely at fullback rather than his customary position at five-eighth, will be a reward for perseverance. For not turning it up when, inexplicably, Parramatta punted the kid considered one of the brightest young prospects in the game.

"I wanted to stay there but it's their decision and I respect it," he said. "I played my junior footy at Carlingford Cougars … Then I went to Parramatta and played Harold Matts there. [Tigers recruiter] Warren McDonnell came up to me, showed some interest and I jumped at the opportunity to play at the Tigers.

"It's not so much something to prove [to the Eels], I'm happy with the move I made."

Given Moses is the nephew of Balmain legend Ben Elias, the Tigers appear a natural fit. As is his combination with boom halfback Brooks, who has overcome the pressures of injury and expectation in his first year in the top grade.

"I'm proud of him," Moses said. "He's kept his head, he hasn't looked into the media and handled himself really well.

"He's a calm kid but he's tough. He cops it every game with teams always coming at him.

"Even at school level, when we were playing together, he was a calm kid. Nothing would get to him."

In their junior days, Moses was considered the flashier player than Brooks, always willing to chance his arm in the quest for points. However, his game has matured after joining the full-time squad.

"I've had to change my game a bit, I've had to be a bit more calm with my game," he said. "I've needed to take control, which I haven't done over the past couple of years.

"If the call up [to NRL] comes, I'll take it with two hands. I'm ready to play. I'd be stoked, over the moon if I get picked."

Another NSW under-20s star is poised to make his NRL debut for the Tigers. Matt Lodge, a mid-season signing from the Storm, will also be blooded against the Panthers.

While Blake Austin, who was originally named to play fullback for the Wests Tigers, laughed at the suggestion his position at the Wests Tigers ought to be listed as "no fixed address", there was some truth to it.

The Penrith junior had already played halfback, five-eighth, hooker and, last weekend, he filled in at fullback for James Tedesco in the opening seconds against Canberra.

"I'm being moved around a bit but it's better than playing reserve grade," he said. "But I want to be the No.6.

"I think spending a bit of time week in, week out in the middle at five-eighth would help me develop."

Austin battled illness and an ankle problem during the week but insisted he would take his place in a game that he conceded would be tough.

"We have our backs against the wall but we'll give our all," he said. "We're missing a few key players to Origin but we're at Leichhardt Oval and there's no better time than now to play there."

Will be brave but good move by Potter to give both Moses and Lodge a run. Its just what we need in a game we are long odds to win. Iam sure it will lift the level of enthusiasm in the team and that is what we need to make up for all the key players we have on the side lines.

The main thing for me, once they get this game under their belt it will make it so much easier when they get their next call up. Iam not expecting any miracles, but on the other hand Moses could run 80 meters to score a try, something Lulia and Lawrence could never dream of

I still find it a bit hard to believe he will debut at f/back against Soward & Wallace….such a crucial position, defensively under the high ball and verbally orgainsing the defensive line
He might alternate with wing???

Good luck to him...and Lodge

Just hope he doesnt get hammered on here if he finds it tough

Looks like we are going into the game with a 24 player squad

Muck like Ink , I hope if he misses a few tackles he doesn't get flogged because it is a huge step up

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Mitchell Moses will make his first-grade debut this afternoon against the Penrith Panthers.

Moses will become the 175th player to play first-grade for Wests Tigers.

The 19-year-old will play fullback this afternoon against the Panthers — replacing James Tedesco, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Club’s 19-18 win over the Canberra Raiders in Round 16.

A local junior for the Club — having played his junior football with Holy Cross Rhinos alongside Luke Brooks — Moses has risen up through the grades at Wests Tigers, and has shown fine form this year in both NYC and NSW Cup, as both teams sit inside the top four of their respective competitions.

He was named at five-eighth the New South Wales U/20’s team that comprehensively beat Queensland earlier in the year, and was also took part in the Club’s 2014 Auckland Nines team at the beginning of the year.

While Moses won’t play in his preferred No. 6 jersey this Sunday, the teenager is still well equipped to play at fullback. Moses played large amounts of junior football in the No. 1 jersey, and played at the back in the Club’s under-20’s victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 14.

He was named man-of-the-match in that game, with two tries and try-assist.

Moses will make his debut this weekend at Leichhardt Oval — a special place for the youngster as he played most of his junior football in the area.

“As a young bloke, I always dreamed of having my debut at Leichhardt,” Moses said.

“I [always used] to watch the games there and watch how big the crowd gets and how they get behind the boys, so it’s always been a dream of mine.

“I haven’t been thinking too much about [making my debut].

“I’m just trying to take it as a normal week and go from there.”

Theres a video there of him being interviewed too.

Suppose that Lodge mustn't be playing then. It'd be a bit weird to make a big deal out of one guys debut and ignore the other.

Nope, Lodge is playing apparently they just have decided to ignore that and heap pressure on Moses via social media. Sweet idea.

14\. Seumanufagai
15\. Halatau
18\. Lodge
19\. Austin??

Geezus

I'm happy with bench Ink. I nearly fell off the chair when I heard Buchanan's name earlier. I'm 58 and think that I can run faster than him! Although I am a fan of Aku.
