MULLANEY NAMED IN U20S TEAM

Wests Tigers U20s Coach Grant Jones has named two teams to play the Sydney Roosters in a trial match at the Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday, February 21.

It will be the third trial match for the Wests Tigers U20s squad following good hit-outs against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the Campbelltown Eagles Bundaberg Cup team.

The U20s trial is the lead-up match to the fourth annual Foundation Cup clash between Wests Tigers and the Sydney Roosters at 6pm.

The first team features the likes of exciting young full-back Jake Mullaney, second-rower Junior Roqica, lock Matt Hyland, who have benefited from being apart of the full-time Wests Tigers NRL summer squad under head coach Tim Sheens.

Mullaney enjoyed a superb season in the U20s last year, finishing as the leading pointscorer in the competition.

Jay Florimo will start the first game at half-back after playing five-eighth in the first Wests Tigers NRL trial win over North Queensland Cowboys in Mackay last week.

Gates open at 3.45pm with the U20s trial from 4pm.

Wests Tigers U20s squad will play their final trial match against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Concord Oval on Friday, February 26, from 6pm.

Team 1 is arguably the stronger of the two on paper however there are a few players with strong claims in team 2 who will be pushing hard. Tigers look to have plenty of depth which is a good thing.
 
I'll take team 2 forward pack on what I've seen so far….Look out for Spence, Passi and Wilson when he comes on at rake......

Passi...potential to be a Crowd Fav........
 
Dean Parata should be in for a good year. And of course Faleula the flyer.

Will be good to see how they progress through the year
 
Junior in the back-row,ive only seen him play a few times,does this surprise anybody? And does anyone know if Dwyer will play at all this weekend?

Roqica has bulked up a bit and is probably a bit too slow for the wing now. A move to the forwards was always likely given he has more filling out to do.

No idea on Dwyer. Hasn't been named anywhere and I'm not sure if he's injured or not.
 
ROOSTERS BEAT WESTS TIGERS 30-16 IN U20S TRIAL

Wests Tigers is fielding two teams for the trial match against the Sydney Roosters.

Sydney Roosters opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a try to
full-back Mark Kheirallah after a one handed offload by five-eighth Josh Phillips. Winger Reece Jaegar converted for a 6-0 lead.

Wests Tigers openbed their account in the 12th minute when centre Limoni Kamuta brushed off a few defenders to score out wide. Full-back Jake Mullaney converted the try for a 6-6 scoreline.

The teams took a drinks break in the 20th minute.

A barnstorming run by second-rower Junior Roqica saw him leave several defenders in his wake to be pulled down a metre short of the line. Unfortunately Wests Tigers couldn't capitalise when a grubber kick by half-back Jay Florimo saw the ball go dead on the last tackle.

Wests Tigers hooker Sam Stanford then burrowed his way over from dummy half to beat two defenders to score under the posts. Mullaney converted for a 12-12 scoreline.

The Roosters regained the lead when half-back Brad Murray put a crossfield kick over the defence for winger Tafuga Sa to catch the ball to score for a 16-12 scoreline. Jaegar converted the try for an 18-12 lead after 32 minutes.

Kheirallah was set to score his third try two minutes later but he dropped a pass from Olomanu Usini 30 metres out from the tryline with no defender near him.

The Roosters took an 18-12 lead into half-time.

2nd Half

Wests Tigers Coach Grant Jones fielded his second team for the second half. Full-back Matthew Brasington only last five minutes before leaving the field with a leg injury.

The Roosters went to a 22-12 lead in the 56th minute after winger Tafuga Sa raced 95 metres to score next to the posts. The try had plenty of luck about it as Wests Tigers forward Mason Talolua palmed off about four defenders before trying to offload a pass. The ball went into the arms of Sa who raced away to score.

Half-back Brad Murray converted the try for a 24-12 lead.

Second-rower Ben Murdoch, a product of Keebra Park High, showed some good handling skills when he regathered a grubber kick before racing 40 metres downfield only to be taken into touch in the 65th minute.

The Roosters all but sealed victory when hooker Rhys Lenarduzzi ran acrossfield field to put prop Jake Grace into a gap to score. Jaegar converted the try for a 30-12 lead after 70 minutes.

A crosskick by five-eighth Liam Ayoub resulted in winger Dayne Craig catching the ball on the full to score. The try was not converted for a 30-16 scoreline. Wests Tigers had a golden chance to score late when the ball bounced off the goal post but a chaser following through could not put it down.

Craig was also denied a try when he was ruled to be taken into touch inside the final minute to leave the Roosters with a 30-16 victory.
 
I watched this game and have to say the Tigers were disappointing today. Poor handling let them down and they gifted the Roosters 2 tries through intercepts. There's definitely some talent there but they still need to work on combinations.
 
I saw Matthew being assisted to walk behind Gate K - my heart broke for him. Poor guy. Anyone know how bad it is yet?

Florimo didn't impress me at all. I thought he took several poor attacking options and his short kicking game wasn't too flash either.

Florimo showed hepas of mongrel in defence but looked dull with the ball in hand. Doubt he has a future in the halves, possibly may end up at hooker.If he was about 10kgs bigger you could use him as a hardworking lock but i cant see any magic growth spurt occur.

Spoke with him after the game and he was in good spirits. Had to have Xrays and wait on results.
