Mundine VS Wood

Im a long supporter of Mundine as a boxer, not a person. And as a supporter, ive endured many arguments with idiots, yes idiots, who say he cant fight. People are blinded by there hate for him, but if anyone thinks Danny Green has taken on better opponants over his career than they are kidding themselves. But Green doesnt cop the same citicism, why?

Its sad to say, but Mundine is finished. If he couldnt put Garth Wood away then its time for him. But at his best, he had the right to be in the ring with anyone in the world. Anthony had a short window where he had it all but he didnt back himself and i believe he will regret this for the rest of his life. After he beat Sam Soliman for the 2nd time he was at his peak and could match anyone. But because of his lack of self belief, he will never reach his potential. If he fights a world class fighter now he will get hurt.

But i will never forget how Anthony Mundine put Aussie boxing back in the papers. He's one of the most naturally gifted fighter this country ahs ever see. I dont like him, but i appreciate his talent.

I can agree with what you said to an extent. He put it back in the papers, on a national level. However he is relatively unknown in any other country.

Danny Green isn't anything special either, lets not forget he had to drop weight to fight Mundine so he wasn't exactly at an advantage in that fight. He has also fought a bunch of unknowns, padding his record to a 31 - 3 - Roy Jones Jnr is no doubt a big name that he fought and "beat", bigger than any name Mundine has fought.

In conclusion, I think Mundine & DG are Australia's most well known boxers - but they're not known outside of the country and I could care less about both of 'em.

I'd rather support an Auzzi like George Sotiropoulous who is making it big in the UFC and may even be the light weight champ some day.

Demps thats the biggest myth in boxing, Danny green did not have to drop weight to fight Mundine. Green was fighting at supermiddlewieght his entire career and decided to move up after he got beat.

4-6 kgs over a 4 month period…. he ran out of steam by the 7-8th round from memory

Mundine shoudl have gone to america after that fight, he would have been world class by now if he had shut up and let some with talent train him, cause he had awesome speed and just enough power to overcome opponents.

But in the end his ego got to him and he became a record fighter, so 20 years from now he will look like one of the best when he really wasn't.

On Aus Boxing

Will Tomlinson is a name to watch for the next few years and obviously one Timothy Tszyu is another

I have no idea why Green doesn't cop the same criticism but maybe it is because he doesn't say he is the greatest fighter ever. Mundine is always going on about how good he is. This is the boxer who has compared his ability to Manny Pacquiao. I think he was serious as well.

At the same time I remember sticking up for him when those idiots were stating he couldn't fight. He has so much talent it is unbelievable.

I also have no real issues with him as a person. By that I meant that as a person I think he is probably an alright guy. Mundine the loud mouth sportsman is an idiot. I think he fakes it to the public to a degree. I think he is dumber than the dumbest person I have ever met but I don't think he is a bad person. He is a moron. There is a difference.

This really gets to me. He acts so cocky but he must doubt himself so much.

I appreciate his talent but he will always be a fighter and a person that I cannot respect. He is an underachiever. He is a loud mouth. He is someone who I stuck up for when ignorant idiots hacked him and despite his amazing talent he has proven the idiots right and me wrong.

I remember the same sort of idiots on this forum and elsewhere hacking Benji. Look at the difference between Benji and Mundine. Benji has remained (it appears) humble and has worked hard to reach his potential. Now he must be considered one of the best rugby league players in the world. Mundine had the same talent but never used it.

We'll never know how good Mundine could have been. After he beat Soliman I began to become a fan of his boxing. After he fought Green he should have gone overseas, but he started floundering around in the Australian scene, which he was better than and prompted me to leave his fanclub. After his fight against Medley, you could see in his eyes he wished he had gone overseas to fight the top guys. Apart from beating Geale (who definitely is not a bum, and probably will end up being seen as a better boxer than Mundine when both are retired) in controversial circumstances he hasn't fought anyone of note since Green, and since his loss to Wood, he probably won't get much of a chance to get any big money fights overseas anymore.

On Danny Green, the only difference between Mundine and Green in my opinion is Mundine tries to be polarising and controversial (it's all an act, because he knows idiots will continually eat it up) whereas Green tries to suck up to the fans. The fact that these two get way more publicity than Australia's world class boxers who actually do go and chase the big fights is a big part of why Australian boxing is a joke.
