My Little Theory (that i stole)

Okay, great bloody game by the tigs! so proud of em, they burnt out but thats alright <3

Anyways, I read around round 2 or 3 an article about new coaches. An (-ex?)NRL coach said that when a new coach comes in it takes a while for all the stuff to sink in and each week the team will remember it for a bit longer in the game. He used the example of the sharks who got a new coach some time back, lost the first 6 then went on a decent streak after that.

I've mentioned this several times and I think that's EXACTLY what has happened with the tigers; mathematically PERFECTLY!

Round 1: Played well for 10min, up 6-0\. Goes to crap and we lose. badly.
Round 2: Played well for 25min, and okay the rest (against a bad team)
Round 3: Played fantastically for around 30-35min. lucky to go in 18-0 (one man effort from farah saved a try on halftime)
Round 4: Played great for 40min, unlucky to be down 4-0 at half from an illegitimate try and we'd probably get one from moltzen with the new obstruction rule.
Round 5: Played GREATT for 60min, burnt out in the end and in a tight game it slipped away.

See the pattern anyone?? I think we can string together quite a few wins in 3-4 round patches over the next 8 rounds or so and definitely get in the 8 if we continue this trend. Maybe even make the semis if we're lucky!

Little note: Storm made 13 errors tonight. They've averaged 11.5 this season before this game. They didn't have an off game, it was a solid game from them and we matched em for most of it. also, suck it to the tigers haters who thought we'd get flogged
:sign:

Thoughts?

Yep that was Chris Anderson, and what he has said is spot on for us so far. Each week its been a slow but sure change on the field.

We might revert back occasionally but improvement is creeping in.

interesting. good post.
we were good tonight and forced alot of errors with our swarming defense

Defense really put the storm back on their heels, along with some great forwrd hitups. Best defensive game I think we have played, shame it blew out in the end, for and against n all. Good theory, so does that mean we will be unstoppable soon. If the same squd can stay fit and healthy, were a chance.

It's not a theory at all. It takes time for bad habits to be lost and good habits to become good habits.

They say its not until the last few rounds of the season where you can really see the impact of a new coach. Look at the Knights last season.

You are right though. Signs are getting much better. Definately a reason to be optimistic rather then pessimistic.

Also, I was curious as to the storm aspect of the game. On their forum, the consenus seems to be that we played amazingly well defensively got tired to the end and the storm pounced. They were happy their team held their cool and didn't try any hail mary plays.

So, I think we can definitely be happy with our 60min down in melbourne. Can't wait to see what happens vs dragons! see if our new spine will work (whatever it is)

The fact that I am so excited about such a good defensive effort for the largest part of the game really highlights how desperately lacking it has been years.

That being said, it's not often you see the Storm swamped like that, and they definitely struggled to lay a platform in the first hour of the game. They're as close as you will see to a perfect side, and an effort like last night against most other teams, save maybe Manly, will see us win far more games than we lose.

Not that excited by the defense, really unsure about whether we can keep it up to be honest…but the attacking desire was good, that's a lot easier to maintain i think (touch wood) and we have the players to maintain that (bodene, pettybourne, woods, big red, koro, aysh isnt too bad and buchanan)

defensively theres a little too many liabilities for me to have faith we can put that kinda performance on for 20 more rounds as well as past performances.
