Nathan Brown is basically saying No to 3 of his players playing for the Maori squad 6 weeks out from their first trial game.

Your 6 weeks out.
6 weeks. Its preseason. I get it train hard, but forget the extra coaching, the experience the pride of representing your people.

Are the NZ players picked for Origin going to not be allowed to attend as well. Maybe the NZ team will be the first without any current warriors playing?

Pathetically bad decision from Brownie. I would be calling each of those players up now, offering them a contract same money but with the opportunity to play for the 'Maori squad'. (Ofcourse checking if they are any good before putting pen to paper).

The players will Nod, say they are OK with the coach and only go 70% through the year.

Congrats Nathan. Your first move as the Warriors coach is to appear Anti Maori.

I've noticed no tigers made the squad, and was wondering if Madge did the same thing

Honestly who would we have AJ Kepioa? Heck he is suspended for behaviour. Packer? Probably not picked and I dont think he is eligible. Man trying to think do we have anyone else who would actually be picked... oh yea Marshall. Well there you go.(i am sure I am missing someone. Yet pretty certain they wouldnt be picked).

Yeah I can't think of many. If it was the Samoan team we'd have half the team!

There's no doubt abut it, pulling on a Maori or Indigenous jersey is special for all sorts of reasons.

But I also get where Brownie is coming from. The bloke and his club are under pressure to deliver and does not seem to think the injury risk is worth the rep experience payoff .

TBH, this game has less value than a club trial.

Good concept but the timing us wrong.

I got time for brownie especially after his stint on Radio MMM in 2020.

Big picture thinker

If he has strictly made the call himself and those 3 players are desperately wanting to play for the Maori team then he has made a huge blunder. Will have gotten half of his playing squad offside with him right from the get-go. Surely he wouldn't be that stupid, it's coaching suicide.
But I think it would be more of a case of him explaining to those 3 how important they are to the Warriors chances of having a successful season and stating to them that he'd prefer that they sit it out and stay united with their Warriors brothers. And they more than likely agreed to that.

Sure if its like 2 weeks from the finals and your trying to make the 8.

Yet its 6 weeks till the trial game. If I was a player I would be Filthy on him for that.

The first 4/5 weeks of the comp will tell if its the correct decision or not

Putting his club first... not like this is a new thing
Mickey mouse game anyway

Try telling the Indigenous and Maori players representing their people that it's a "Micky Mouse game". Ignorant comment.

Didn't Newcastle lose a big player in his 1st season at the 9's or the All Star from memory
