Nathan Cleary

Not sure what Ivans relationship with Gould is really like. After the way Gould made his sacking a public affair, not sure he would be so supportive of Goud trying to tie up the services of his son long-term.
Nathan appears to have a great relationship with his father, and the actions of the great Gus may come back to bite him on the butt with this one.

I'm almost positive Gould mentioned in commentary that he travelled to the game with Ivan when we played at Campbeltown, not the last game but the game before that. So your not going to sit in a car with someone when you dont need too, so i assume their relationship is at least semi friendly.

Truth be known Doc I wouldn't have a clue what level of friendship they have, all assumption on my part - maybe even a bit of wishful thinkng.

Nor would i mate apart from that snippet i heard during the commentary as i said, i would have assumed there would be some sour grapes there from Cleary i dont know anyone who happily gets the sack, he might be the exception to the rule

From a mate who worked at Panthers, Gould treats people like crap. Ok anyone non Rugby league just get treated like inhuman underlings. Rugby league staff slightly better. People walked away from Gould for a good reason… He is very very hard to deal with.

That being said I could see Gould maintaining a friendship with Cleary. He did bring the guy in, he has continued to train his son and they have both worked together. Looking at Griffin's performance, he did punch a little above his weight in the finals. Penrith should have been a writeoff... they made it without a key star in Moylan. That being said I reckon Gould is thinking Griffin is about as good as Cleary and he may poach Cleary back when his contract is up here.

Been catching this boat for the last 20 years. I've seen whales, dolphins, sharks, seals in the harbour before. Haven't seen one go that high though.
It looked pretty happy, so DCE after his 10 year high rollers deal.
Probably a Yes voter. Whales are so left wing.

Ivan Cleary is a smart guy and will steer young Nathan towards the club that offers him the best long term benefits, and that may not be us. If we are still mid table or below and a team like the Chooks offer him a good deal, I would be surprised if he did not encourage him to sign. I also think he would back him if he showed loyalty and resigned with the Panthers.

Also when was the last time we beat off one of the bigger clubs for a marquee signature?? I really don’t see dad being coach as a major factor

If the Roosters don't win a premiership in the next 2 years Robinson will be gone, and they will look at Ivan and Nathan.

So the fact that Ivan is contracted until the end of 2020 to the Wests Tigers means not much if other Clubs are just going tocircle in the hope of getting both

If Cleary was to consider it. .is Ivan the coach we want

Ivan seems like a very honest and upfront sought of bloke.

I think he will appreciate the opportunity given by the tiger's and if and when the opportunity comes up and they feel strongly about it being the right time I'm sure IC will bring him to the Tigers rather than say see you I'm out of here. Thanks for nothing

I don't think Ivan has coached a team for longer then 3 years.

2006-11 Warriors (6 Years) poached by Gus..
2012-15 Panthers (4 Years) punted by Gus

I remember when we played the Panthers, Ivan said something along the lines of "it's weird coaching against your son". Don't think they want to do that for the rest of their careers. I can see why both would want to be at the one club.

How long is Ivan signed??? for maybe should extend
him a couple of years to stop other clubs Ie Rorters ( they'll be due for a new coach)and a half back in 2 years.

Ivan Cleary is contracted to the WESTS Tigers until the END of the 2020 NRL season ….2018,2019 and 2020..

Unless we punt him or he asks for a release to join Nathan at the Rorters..apparently..

here is a link from Wests Tigers Media upon the signing...http://www.nrl.com/wests-tigers-announce-cleary-as-head-coach/tabid/10874/newsid/105295/default.aspx

So contracted till 2020\. Which means he can keep us. However if he wants out, he will get out.
That being said, look at the attitude with Moses, I think he reckons a contract is a contract. It's old school thinking but he will be around.

Now we love the guy at the moment. It is a total lovefest. Cleary is a decent coach and who we need, but no coachgod. He may go back to Penrith or elsewhere, we may pinch Flanagan or Robinson, who knows. That is fine.

Agreed. But more then that Ivan was hired by the same team that Gould built at Penrith. The Wests Tigers is now the Gus Gould rebuild the west… Without Gus.

He may leave, but he won't drop us flat. You don't anger all your friends at once.

The main thing though is that gus sacked him.

He didn't leave.

I don't think we will sack him (god i hope I'm right i mean it is the WT ).

And I think I will cherish the opportunity to take the tiger's to the next level and will want to make this his club

Unless he delivers something at the Tigers [in his 3 years], he will simply be a 'Achieved Nothing Coach' and more than likely be used goods as far as NRL Coaches go.

Over to you Ivan… Brmmmmm Brmmmmmm... Get that Bus going buddy!!!

I'm sure that Ivan has a lot more integrity than Moses.
