Change it to we are one and we are many from all the lands we come..

Still needs an Oi , Oi , Oi at the end

Remember being at an Ashes SCG test years ago and every time some bogans started that chant the Barmy Army started singing "you've only got one song!"

Top banter.

Kiwi style - second verse (mandatory)

I love that one when they break into Maori version

Give the that we have a lot of work to do and a word or verse here or there probably doesn’t cut it

A referendum was conducted and the majority of Australians voted for AAF to be our national anthem. To change or alter it in any way would require another referendum.

Bob Hawke changed "Australia's sons" to "Australian's all" with no referendum when he was Prime Minister in 1984.

The suggested change is to go from "we are young and free" to "we are one and free" because the indigenous people feel excluded because they have been here for thousands of years even though Australia itself is a young nation.

Just do it, I can see any reason not to.

Then change the Australian flag.

Fantastic, that vote was held 15 years after indigenous Australians were given the right to vote and before compulsory voting for indigenous people was made law. Do you think the indigenous people of the time had the ability to have any influence over that plebiscite?

Also you say that the majority of Australians selected Advance Australia Fair? That is not true, for started the National Song was an optional component of the referendum and it only received 43% of the votes tat were cast. So definitely not a majority.

While you point out that colinbh was not actually correct in stating that 'the majority of Australian selected Advance Australia Fair', be honest and agree that of the 8,401,467 people on the roll, 43.3 per cent voted for Advance Australia Fair (including me!).
The total number of people, who claim indigeneity is 847,190 or 10.1 per cent of the ppulatin.

Nobody would care if they changed the word "Girt" but

Just change the damn words people.

And for giggles - could we have a bridge & a chorus? Maybe to the ABC theme?

When was that ? The 70s ? Might as well have been in the 1800s with all that has changed since then .

I already said 43% voted, I don't know what I need to be honest about?

Talk about missing the point

Although i think some Indigenous players have the right to make there opinions known when it comes being political correct neither make a strong case to warrant there views.

I would much rather hear from Indigenous leaders or someone that has brought the country together like Cathy freeman.

Ps - If you have not watched the ABC Iview documentary on her upbringing its worth a watch. Also shows how we did treat the 1st Australians but we have been making strides in recent years to make all Australians included regardless of race or culture.

I can't stand the current anthem. I was a proponent of Christine Anu's "My Island Home" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSFGK9HlEto

From the first of January 2021 the Nation Anthem word will be changed from:
young and free
To:
one and free

Good ide if it helps the aboriginal community.

As a son of a migrant with a family of my own, I love being an Australian and there is nothing greater than this place I am privileged to call my home.

We are one and free.

Change the wording . Or the song . Whatever . Just stop with the divisive stuff. If this is going to make people a little closer , then I’m all for it.
But the issue is , many people , don’t believe this will be more inclusive . Many believe , it will just shift to the next thing .
I personally , hope that , at some point when enough , social change has happened , that people will finally look in the mirror , no matter what ethnicity you are , and understand a lot of your issues are yours alone .
But in saying all that ,everything is undone, by some donkey yelling racist crap from thier soap box .
It’s a nuanced issue , with many things being people playing the victim , whilst many more being true racism and bigotry.
I just hope we can sort it out and concentrate on fixing the planet , so my kids and thier kids , can have as good a life as we all have had .

Your last sentence sums it up for me & I say bloody oath. All we can do is make it right from now on.

The only time colours matter to me (& I’m sure many others here) are during footy time, ie. black, gold & white. And anyone can wear those!

A National Anthem should be uplifting ,inspiring and embraced by the whole population. The current one is flat as a pancake and somewhat cringeworthy and hardly uplifting at all.

Not to me.
