I fear that the new Brisbane club is going to drain the cream of the crop in 2023 which was the year weststigers I'm sure were sweating on to sign 2 or 3 marquee players. There are only dregs left now, my recommendation is 1. Shore up our best current players and development squad (enter Tim Sheens) so they don't jump ship and 2. Throw the cheque book at someone like Simms before its too late, probably is though, doh! Must be someone willing to come over for the coin.
Thoughts?
Side note, just watched 'The Guilty' on Netflix starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ethan Hawke, reasonable movie if you can't find anything 🖖

I doubt it will make a massive difference to us as we aren’t going to sign any elite players anyway

The cream of the crop are never going to sign with us so it'll make little difference. Probably make more difference to Storm (lots of QLD players) and any other players keen to be based in Brisbane whether through homesickness or lifestyle.

Agreed decent movie though Ethan Hawke's role is purely voice only. Would hardly credit his involvement.

It actually should work out alright for WT. The new team will have cash to burn to go after the top players which we don’t have, and unlike the last time expansion happened we don’t have anyone off contract next year that I’d be desperate to keep.

I think it will inflate the price for the average to solid 1st grader. Depending on how you interpret the situation, there’s just not enough talent to go around - Or the distribution of the talent is skewed.

I replied to your post because it really made me think about scenario of top players coming off contract. It still effects the tigers because to improve, we need to fill our squad with better than average players.

Hope we don't have a fight on our hands to retain our supposedly promising juniors who we are relying on......again....🙄

Going with financial stability means little

In 1988 Seagulls were the srongest , financial rugby league club in Australia

Anyone remember the Gold Coast Seagulls .....

Yep. Shocking weren't they

best of luck to Redcliffe. they're going to want to steal a fair few players, but I think we should be ok. Mikaele, Hoffman and Ofahengaue may well be on their radar. stoked we locked Simpkin up long term.

Not surprised, they must hold the record as the least successful club across the whole history of rugby league in Australia. Three consecutive wooden spoons! And if not spooning it up in the bottom 2-3 teams consistently.

Part of the deal should have been they can only sign NRL level players from teams that finished top 5 this year - that would have put the cat among the pigeons lol
