We run the rule over the performances of the new faces and key positional changes in the Wests Tigers lineup from Round 1.
Adam Blair - new recruit, started in second row
Big-name recruit Adam Blair made his Tigers debut against the Sharks on Sunday, headlining a number of new Tigers to impres in their first game. After joining the club to much excitement, Blair delivered in his first outing in front of a passionate Leichhardt Oval crowd, playing the full 83 minutes alongside departing back-rower Gareth Ellis
While not a stand-out, Blair provided the grunt that the Tigers pack required in 2012, making 25 tackles, 84m from 12 runs, a tackle break and 2 offloads. He scored 23 Dream Team points, but will be back again, rampaging down the Tigers potent left edge against the Sea Eagles.
James Tedesco/Tom Humble - new fullback, new recruit
Tim Moltzen’s move to halfback meant a new fullback for the Tigers, with James Tedesco named to start, and Tom Humble on the bench. Tedesco looked sharp in the opening stages, and certainly not out of place, before a knee injury cruelled his debut.
Humble replaced him at the back, and proved a handy pick-up for the Tigers, with safety under the high ball and plenty of spark around the ruck. Tedesco managed 87m in attack and 4 tackle breaks for 18 Dream Team points, while Humble made 92m in attack, and scored 14 Dream Team points. With Tedesco out for the season, Humble has been named to start at fullback for Round 2.
Matthew Bell - new recruit, starting at from the bench
With Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita moving on in 2012, Matthew Bell was brought in to bolster up the Tigers front row stocks. He certainly did that in his debut, with a strong defensive effort off the bench, making 24 tackles in just 26 minutes on the field. He scored 16 Dream Team points in that effort, and has again been named on the Tigers bench for their clash with Manly this Friday night.
Tim Moltzen - new halfback
Starting in a position he is far from unfamiliar with, Moltzen moved into halfback to replace Robert Lui for 2012\. An impressive 82% success rate partnering Benji Marshall was bettered, but Moltzen’s impact was limited as he spent time on the sideline with split webbing on his hand. He made 40m in attack, with 11 tackles, scoring 5 Dream Team points. With his injury not a major concern, Moltzen will again partner Marshall in the halves in Round 2.
