New Website Ideas

Just to clear up the confusion, the suggestion wasn't to connect or merge user accounts here with facebook.
That can't and won't happen.

What are people's thoughts on integrating facebook into this site a bit more? It wouldn't link your accounts, but you could "facebook like" posts, threads, articles and what-not.

Im not a massive poster but i've been a religious reader of this forum and its predecessor for well over 5 years. I log on and skim through new posts many times a day. I live in China and don't have access to facebook here as it's banned. Simply on that i'll be selfish and say we dont need it but on a more constructive level, will it slow the site in any way, adding more and more things that may be unnecessary? If not, some people may enjoy the add, but i think its not needed and the two worlds should be kept seperate.

Good day to all, The Mighty Tigers by 16 this weekend!!!

again, no information is shared. It's simply a link at the bottom of pages which, if clicked, would navigate you to facebook where you could post about it on your wall.

Wests Tigers already have it on their website:
http://www.weststigers.com.au/default.aspx?s=article-display&id=29502&title=sheens-names-mckinnon-at-full-back" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
check out the links above the article title.

no information about you, your account here or account on facebook is ever shared at any stage.

just to confirm that, there is NO suggestion of linking your Facebook account (if you have one) and your user account here in any way, shape or form. It's also impossible, facebook don't let you do this.

Back to the suggestion, it's the same as clicking an "email this to a friend" button. When you click it, it opens up a new email message.

it's also similar to hitting "Print" on a website. When you hit print, the server doesn't connect directly to your printer. If you hit print on this website, this site doesn't steal all the information off your printer. That can't happen. It's the same with this facebook thing.

Thanks for the clarification however if it was me I would not be giving anyone a reason to leave the site, linking to facebook or linking to anything else.

I also understand that I may be in the minority in thinking this way.

I couldn't agree more.
However, again, let me clarify further by explaining that when you click this "link" it updates your facebook page (if you are a member of facebook) dynamically. Ultimately you never leave this site whilst at the same time your facebook friends see

"Bob Smith just liked/commented-on the thread/article _"Benji Marshall extends his contract"_ at [WestsTigersForum.com](http://www.weststigersforum.com)"

as you can see, it will promote the site to Bob Smith's friends who use facebook. They will get this notice on their facebook homepage, meanwhile Bob has never left this site. All he did was click "like!"

@ink - a few security concerns in this current forum software version meant we had to disable the search. It has since been fixed and we'll be upgrading to the latest forum version over the summer.

If possible the "Tapatalk" plugin, so the forums can easily be accessed and viewed from an iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and other mobile devices.

See here: http://www.tapatalk.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A history section would be useful, there could be a section on Western Suburbs, a section on Balmain, a section on Wests Tigers, things like famous players, important events in the history of the clubs, controversial games and events etc, probably a lot of work involved just a thought.

Excellent ideas!

@mike: there shouldn't be any problems installing that script, but i'll run it past Kaiser. The new site should also have a smartphone friendly skin. We're also working on an iphone app.

@cunno: I had an idea a while ago of setting up a wiki section, that way everyone could contribute and "build" an encyclopedia of Wests/Balmain/Wests Tigers.

But isn't that what sites like Wikipedia are for? dunno.

I liked the addition of the news stories on the front page, but I find theyre inconsistently updated. One day youll get 2-3 news stories, then none for a week.

I dont get the chance to look through all the newspapers every day, so reading them online is my best option.

If we could have that more frequently updated, including any stories on the Tigers in the SMH or DT, that would be awesome if it's not too much trouble. And also have the latest team announcement up each week. Some weeks it's on the front page, other weeks it's not.

What do people think of a chat function like Facebook? Shows who's online and can chat PM to them? Is this possible?

I'm a big fan of the Like/Dislike for posts too.

Getting into nitty gritty stuff now, and I think this was mentioned when this site first came up, is at the top of each post to have the title in a lower case as that's not that important, and the user's name in a bigger case.

Get rid of chat box no one uses it….

& Highlighted posts if heaps of people like a post it will come up on the homepage as a hgihlighted post

Forum Sections dedicated to Tigers players
with each player having their own section
like on the old forum

I was wondering if we could have a chatbox where you could interact with the Wests Tigers captain. I mean every Tuesday, Robbie or Benji or whoever could log onto the forum and we could ask him questions.

If any of the mods are good enough friends with some of the Tigers player or if someone could organise that, it would be awesome coz sometimes after a game, IDK bout other people but I really feel like knowing what's going through the player's minds etc.

I know they do a lot of interviews but still if only they could do it for their fans, it would be GREAT!!!

Just a suggestion

Not sure where to ask this q. but when the new site gets activated, we won't have to register again right? I may sound like a technoob but I'm not that big of a noob

how do you know that the players don't already post here?

as for getting a chat session going, it would be awesome to do (we once had a Q&A session back in 04 i think) but unfortunately certain unwarranted negative elements within the organisation would ensure that this never takes place.

As for the upgrade, no the database would remain the same, just the "feel" of the place would be enhanced

So is there a problem if actual players reveal their identity on this forum? I would really love to have a representative of the Wests Tigers team answer some of our questions!!
