After the Tinkler deal, they land Bennett + Boyd, new stand
There team will be good in 2012 i think
Boyd, Gidley, Mullen, Uate, Houston … and they will probably attract some more players now with all that ^

**Darius Boyd waits for Wayne Bennett's decision before making career move**

IN the clearest indication yet that Darius Boyd will be wearing a South Sydney or Newcastle jumper next season, the St George Illawarra fullback declined an expression of interest from the Gold Coast last week on the grounds he would be following Wayne Bennett to his new club.

Gold Coast chief executive Michael Searle confirmed yesterday he had sounded out Boyd's management company, SFX Sports, about the prospect of luring the Dragons No 1 to the tourist strip with a view to playing him at five-eighth next season.

"We made tentative inquiries with his management company and the general feeling was that he would probably follow Wayne to wherever he was going to," Searle said.

"If he wasn't going to follow Wayne, once Wayne makes a decision about his future, then he's welcome to give us a call.

"He can play five-eighth, he can play fullback, he can play centre, he can play anywhere. He's a good kid."

It was only on Sunday after Boyd produced a man-of-the-match performance against the Bulldogs that he said he was yet to make a decision on his future and that while he could activate an out clause in his contract to follow Bennett, he was also a chance of remaining at the Dragons or returning home to south-east Queensland.

While Boyd has a strong tie to Bennett, forged from their time together at the Broncos, the Queensland representative has battled homesickness during his stint at the Dragons which prompted interest from both the Titans and his former club, Brisbane.

The Titans are also in the market for Canterbury centre Jamal Idris but are desperate to find a quality full-time five-eighth to partner halfback Scott Prince, having tried both Luke Capewell and Greg Bird with varying degrees of success this season.

While Boyd has made a name for himself wearing the No 1 jumper at the Dragons, he has also looked impressive at five-eighth and there is a view the 23-year-old will make the switch to that position at some stage of his career.

Brisbane chief executive Paul White said they would also be interested in Boyd if he was genuine about returning home, given Brisbane captain and long time five-eighth Darren Lockyer has announced he will be retiring at the end of the season.

"Our priority at the moment is locking up the guys that we've got but some time in the future if he wanted to come back to the club then we'd certainly be interested," White said.

"He's most definitely one of the best backs in the game.

"You draw a line through his club form and his representative form and he just ticks so many boxes for any club.

"That's one of the reasons we'd want him back.

"He can play a number of different roles and he's really developed into one of the great running backs of the game."

looking at a short list they have the following players off contract

Ciraldo
De Gois (likely to resign soon)
Gidley (likely to resign soon)
MacDougall
Mika
Naiqama
Sau
Southern

So Bennett doesnt have much wrigle room ud think maybe half a million if his lucky unless they werent using all the cap etc.

The Knights would have plenty of room under their cap. Apart from Costigan, Gidley and Mullen none of them would be on much more than 250k a year. They'd be able to fit Boyd under the cap too.

Thought Boyd said himself he wanted to go back to QLD

They nearly couldn't afford to give MacDougall another contract this year MM, they must be paying overs somewhere…

TBH I hate Newcastle as much as I hate Parra and Easts. I'm not looking for to that smarmy bastard Andrew Johns commentating every Knights game raging about his hard on for Bennett and how they will be premiership contenders.

I think they'll say goodbye to De Gois or Henry and have Gidley @ Hooker of 5/8 depending on who they chose.
Thats if Darius Boyd tags along and becomes fullback.

Expect some $$ to be thrown at a few players such as Kade Snowden and I thought Jamal Idris but apparently he's off the cards.

Newy will improve massive from this.

Beau Henry will stay, and flourish under Bennett.

Well they were in financial strife before Tinkler took over, maybe they couldn't afford to spend their whole cap. When Melbourne got done for cheating last season people were saying only Newcastle and Canberra had room under their cap to sign Storm players. Next year they'll look something like:

1\. Gidley
2\. Uate
3\. Sau
4\. Boyd
5\. McManus
6\. Henry
7\. Mullen
8\. Snowden
9\. De Gois
10\. Tuimavarve
11\. Costigan
12\. Paterson
13\. Houston

14\. Hilder
15\. Tafua
16\. Fa'aoso
17\. Mika

I am assuming Boyd follows Wayne and Snowden does end up back in Newcastle. I think the Mad Dog will retire, while Wes Naiqama doesn't strike me as the type of player Wayne Bennett would hold want. The side does look pretty strong.

Naiqama > McManus.
I think you may see a few more get dropped and a few big name signings next year since they got the sugar daddy to support it.

Personnaly, lol… I'd have

1) Boyd
2) Uate
3) Sau
4) Likiliki
5) Naiqama
6) Henry
7) Mullen

9) Gidley

Naiqama is off contract and has a history of screwing up off the field. He's not someone I think Wayne Bennett would want to keep. McManus is a much safer player and much more stable off the field.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beau Henry gets the chop, Bennett let him go from the Saints which is how he ended up at the Knights in the first place.

Will not win a comp with that squad. I honestly think this will be the one club Bennet does not take to a Premiership.

What are you talking about , lol…
Bennet was the reason Beau Henry had to leave the dragons.

Locky was a fullback turned 5/8 thanks to WB.
Possibility he wants to do the same with Darius.

Be interested to see what he does with the knights tho.

I would not fear that side

They will be premiership contenders with Bennett and Tinkler taking over. Players will want to go to the Knights because Bennett is there and Tinkler will have the cash.
