Eleebana and Valo, all that area is beautiful.
Expensive too.

Yeah, good place to grow up. Don't think it was expensive when my old folks bought in. Was when they were selling off plan. But I'm sure it's pricy now.

Moved to Carey Bay when I hit high school.

Did you say which suburb you grew up in demps? Didn't see it in the thread.

I spent time all over from Swansea, blacksmiths, Belmont….. But I bought in Macquarie Hills.

Not far from the city and close to everything, for me personally.

Nice. I've got some good friends who live there and the old man used to have one of his car dealerships on the strip at Cardiff.

Love Belmont and Swansea. Especially the heads there. But it's a shame it's just a bit too far out.

Does that street at Macquarie hills still do the awesome xmas lights?? That's the main thing I remember about there. Was so good.

I have no idea about Xmas lights.
I know Tingara Heights use to put on a. Big show but not lately…

Yeah Swansea area is so far out.
Good for a swim and a feed but very isolated.

Yeah, I'm sure there was a street at Macquarie Hills that was spectacular. Almost every house was on board. But i'm talking 10 years ago, so it may not be happening any more. Tingara Heights was the Gracelands house, which was just awesome, but unfortunately they got too old and donated their lights to the Hunter Valley Gardens.

You don't get a better view than the Swansea RSL. Love watching the water rush in from the heads.

Aye true. I'll have a look around next Xmas. Relatively new here.

Swansea RSL is a magic spot and food is at its best, price and qaulity wise.
Caves Resort / formerly the Mawson is really good too on a warm night.

The only time you'll find me in Newcastle is when I am there for work.

That's not to say that I think the place is a hole or anything, just not for me.

Hey Demps, do you catch Clint Dogg on the RSL and Bowlo circuits?

I am a long time league unlimited lurker, lol…
Is he still alive?

Hes a dud bra, he's not well known or respected around here as far as I know.

Spent some time up in Newcastle over the years and again just recently. The place has had its ups and downs.

As a teenager and young adult use to camp at caves beach holiday park (I think thats what it was called?). It is now a resort now.

Pretty cosmo up their now along the harbour there and in and around town. I heard the V8's went well also.

Went quad bike riding and fishing on the dunes in Stockton. Stayed in Hamilton and at the crown more recently.

In its hay day it was incredible looking out to sea at night and seeing the distant lights of the ships.

Caves resort is rly nice.
Good pizzas.
Whole general area there has been re done with shops and apartments.

Turning into a nice little holiday destination.

I know there's more than that….

Old racist dog Dingo was another but he's gone now.

Don't be shy novacastrians!

My wife grew up in Kotara, I avoid the place like the plague! Novocastrians are the worst damn drivers in the country, worse even than Melbourne and Sydney. Nowhere else will people intentionally speed up to cut you off when you put your blinker on!! And that bloody Hunter expressway they put in has just made it easier for more of them to come up my way and be a nuisance! Plus it's made it just a little too close for my mother in-law to visit whenever she likes….. LOL
I'm in Singleton but grew up just North of Scone. We really need to up our game at Newcastle this year, my brother in-law is a huge Knights fan and every time we should wipe the floor with them we seem to lay down!

Lived around Maitland all my life, find Sydney alright to visit but couldn't live there. close to vineyards and my favorite spot these days is hawks nest (windy whopper especially) which is a small part of Hawks nest, lie back and relax and watch the dolphins swim past.

Hi all, any other users from this area?
I have lived here since age 12 or so and before that was Bouncing around the sunny Queensland coast.

I know there is a handful of Novacastrians from PM convos so let’s have a roll call… And discuss why it’s better than the central coast and Sydney… :joy:

And if you’re not from here feel free to share any memories of visits, etc…

Go the tigers! Down with the knights!

I'm at Port Macquarie - was thinking of getting down to Newcastle for the game against the Knights. Maybe we could organise a meet up with all Tigers supporters before the game

I think we may have discussed this somewhere on another thread at some point. I went to SHS as well, grew up in Wingen, I think you were a couple of years above me from memory.I did year 10 in '98

Nice mate. We actually had a holiday unit on Beach Rd, but sold it around 5 years ago now. Used to love getting up to Hawks Next as a kid and cycling around to Windy Whopper.

Moved up newy about 25yrs ago, lake macquarie is a great place to live , still get down to sydney regularly for family reasons but can't get out of there quick enough, my workplace is anywhere around newy to the hunter, driving around is so much more relaxing than the rat race of sydney. So as I sit here overlooking pulbah island have a couple coldies I wouldn't swap it for sydney million dollar suburb living. As long as we keep our recent run against the knights I don't have to listen to their guff
