Next year- lui

I'm so tired of seeing Benji and Farah taking wrong option after wrong option.
Sheens has to let lui be the dominant playmaker in our team.
No more can we afford to take poor options at crucial stages.
Let the halfback do what he has to and control the team.
So many times tonight I saw lui screaming for the ball only for Farah or Benji to overule and send it the other way and the play amount to nothing.
Things must change if we are to take it to the next level.
I realise most will hammer me about this opinion but I think tonight surely shows that our 2 favs cannot get it done in the pressure situations.

Needs to learn how to tackle.

How many times did Mateo just walk straight through him?

Deadset let in at least one try and several line breaks

I agree with the OP. Farah and Marshall are great, flashy players but they don't know how to play the percentages.

What kills me is why we play the percentages in first half and not second…..

Lui will get there and when he does we'll win the comp again.

Faf and Benj dont control a game as well as we would like but both scored last night and gave us a chance. I dont blame them for the loss.

lui has to be more dominant in 2012 - agree with the thread - and then like another thread says we can think about coming 1 and 2 next season. My question is though, can Lui reach that level, or will benji and farah ever rate him that much to fully let him go sick. Melbourne and Manly play the percentages. We have the potential i think.

I wonder how he will go about fixing these deficiencies in defence? Sheens was able to successfully transform Lawrence into a good defender but he was always built pretty compactly and was always quite solid in structure. In his case, it was purely his confidence or lack of in this case.

How do you go about rectifying Lui's defence? I think his problems are as a result of both a small structure and confidence, but definitely confidence being the prominent factor. How does Sheens restore confidence in his defence? I remember that game against the Dragons in Rd12 where Gasnier exploited his defence all day and on that occasion I was willing to put that down to him having a terrible day, but it just hasn't improved since then. And the other night was an example of how it hasn't improved, he didn't even lay a hand on Mateo.

If he can improve his defence, combine that with his attack he is a complete player. ATM he is relying far too heavily on his attack to carry him.

Yeah he may scream for the ball but when he does get it he very rarely runs with it. Just catch and pass.

As Kul also said - defence very ordinary.

Lui makes as many mistakes in terms of decision making as Benji and Marshall. He is a similar player, comes up with some big plays, but is not an organiser or a level headed player.

Unless Lui can become a more directional half, I dont think he is a great match for Benji. I just think we end up with too many players that are too similar. We would be better suited with a player less talented but more level headed. A Peter Wallace style player would be an excellent foil for Benji.

100% agree, I would sign Wallace in a heartbeat i think he would be a perfect fit.

But we have also seen that experiment fail all be with a much less talented player then wallce in J Mo

I would also look at Townsend or Porter from the sharks. Hopefully Miller Turns out to be as good as every one is saying.

Well judging by this mornings events there has to be a massive doubt on Lui even being at the club next year but the point still stands that i believe we need someone to step up and control the team from 7.

So looking at our possible options we have for 2012:
Miller in the 20s who could possibly fill the role, but is he ready for the weekly grind of first grade week in week out?
Sign a new player? who's out there at such a late stage? obviously Carney has no club. He would be a massive risk but could pay huge dividends. On the other hand could be a disaster.
Lui- too many question marks at this stage to know exactly his status until the club releases a statement.

I'm really worried now as i'm almost positive that without a capable 7 we cannot get it done in the big games.

Carney should not be considered an option, he doesn't learn from his mistakes either.

I think we'll really need to pick someone up. Most on here feel Miller will need a year or 2 more before he's ready.

I would give Carney a go.

imo nothing Carney has done comes close to to what Lui has been accused of twice.

If Lui is to go then you don't want another basket case walking through the door as his replacement. If the Tigers get rid of him it's to punish him and to keep it's good reputation in the public eye. By bring Carney in you can bet that the clubs reputation will be walking out the door the day Carney comes in.

Am I the only one who thinks carney would be too similar yo benji? Is he really an organizing half??

That's what we need most someone the opposite of flashy with a good footy brain.

Izotope, j have had that conversation with others before ( not on the forum) and I agree 100%

Benji is instinctive and plays what's on front of him. The perfect halves parter for him is someone with structure and knows how to direct the team around. Organise the forwards and get Benji in good feild position to work his magic. He also needs to take control of a game and know how to close out the opposition.

Carney, I feel, would not do any of these and would play to similar to Benji.

As I read through the posts before you, izotope, my thoughts were exactly the same as yours. I thought Carney was going to be a good player, but he never quite seemed to be able to put his stamp on games and take control of the team. That is not to say that he did not show flashes of brilliance, but I did not see him as an organiser.
Lui would have been a real chance of being the organiser, but I guess that is all gone now from the Tigers perspective.

Yes, a young version of Scott Prince would fit the bill, wouldn't he?
